Linda HEMPHILL Obituary

HEMPHILL, Linda (Cashin) Of Lexington, February 24, 2025. Beloved wife of Thomas Scott Hemphill. Loving mother of Daniel Hemphill of Lexington and Bonnie Hemphill of Amesbury. Devoted sister of Arthur Cashin of Nashville, TN and David Cashin of Columbia, SC.

Linda grew up in Amherst, MA and Lieutenant Island, Wellfleet. She completed undergraduate education abroad in Beirut during her father's professional stint in Saudi Arabia, then earned her medical degree from Boston University, with residency and fellowship at Carney Hospital and St. Elizabeth's, respectively.

Dr. Hemphill leaves an indelible mark as a leader in preventive cardiology and lipidology research at USC, Boston Heart Foundation and most recently, MGH (2004-2024), where she established the leading regional apheresis center for treatment of severe lipid disorders. Linda was Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association as well as a founding Fellow and longstanding member of the Board of Directors of the National Lipid Association. She served on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Familial Hypercholesterolemia Foundation, as President of the New England Lipid Association and as an Associate Editor of the "Journal of Clinical Lipidology." She was a passionate and generous colleague and caregiver.

Linda's deep faith in Jesus Christ defined her, touching countless lives. Friend of international students, supporter of world missions, active in her local church and a kindhearted healer, Linda served others with devotion.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Hemphill. Although I did not know of her personally, I was a patient of hers. I always looked forward to my interactions with her because, not only was she a consummate professional, but I could feel a sense of her as a person who actually cared about my wellbeing. She exuded kindness and spoke on a very human level as opposed to being just clinical. I will miss her. Godspeed.

To The Hemphill Family,
I´m so sorry to learn of the passing of Dr Linda Hemphill! I just had a in person visit with her on 2-18-25! She squeezed me into she schedule! It was such a wonderful visit with her! I´ve known her ever since Dr Lees retired! She was my go to person for all my medical stuff including FCS. She was excited to learn of possibly a NEW drug in the process of being approved by the FDA for Hyperlipidemia Type 1.
I will truly miss her! She had a heart of gold and always going the extra mile for everyone!
My heart is broken and I will truly miss her!!
