LOIS MIRSKY Obituary

MIRSKY, Lois (nee Barnett) Of Westwood, Plymouth, W. Roxbury, and New Haven, entered into eternal peace on Feb. 18, 2021 after a struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. Beloved wife of Irwin Mirsky; mother of Scott (married to Kathy), Peter (married to Betsy), and Andy (married to Trish); six grandchildren, Daniel 26, Darla 23, Julia 21, Alex 18, Ben 18 and Nate 17; sister, Jane Grignetti (married to Mario); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly. Lois grew up in New Haven, CT with parents Harry and Marion Barnett with her older brother, Jerry (deceased), and younger sister, Janie, with whom she shared a profound bond. Lois attended Wheelock College in Brookline, graduating in 1954 with a BS in Education and remained active with the school her entire life. While at Wheelock she met Irwin and they were married in 1954 after her graduation. With first son Scott they made their way up to the Boston area and lived in West Roxbury for 10 years, ultimately settling in Westwood for 38 years. Irwin was her best friend who she did everything with, from putting together a family celebration, sailing in Boston Harbor on their boat or traveling to Norway or Ireland. They were connected at the hip. Lois loved to work and keep busy. She was an early riser who loved walking, especially with Irwin and their beloved English Cocker Spaniel, Reggie. Lois was a caring, loving, compassionate person who loved her family and friends more than anything. She lit up the room with her smile and her blue eyes and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Lois was an avid writer who recently had a book published called "Special Stripes" geared towards young children addressing the topic of bullying. Lois especially loved to write about her family and created a magazine called "Family Matters" engaging all members to contribute personal stories and "Reflections." Lois had integrity and could be fierce in her outrage over injustices. She also maintained a lifelong love and commitment to her religion and cultural traditions. Lois will be dearly missed by her family and friends but loved forever by all and is now in the hands of God for eternity. I had such fond memories of Lois while working with her many years ago. I was not surprised but saddened when I found her obituary in a search for her. She left a memorable impression on me as a kind lady (always a lady) and compassionate person. RIP Lois and thank you for the lasting memories.

I worked with Lois at L.W. Robbins. I was a young writer, yet she saw enough potential to hire me over more qualified copywriters. She was a wonderful person and mentor, guiding me through the ins and outs of agency life with humor and compassion. Lois is one of the reasons I became and remain a successful professional writer today. To Irwin and the rest of her family, may her memory be as for a blessing.

So many wonderful memories were made at the Mirsky home while growing up next door. Every once in a while, Mrs. Mirsky would lock herself out of the house and I’d help her by climbing thru the window. My reward was fruit on the bottom yogurt and the most wonderful visit at her table. She was truly kind and had a way of making me feel special. I’ll continue to think of her every time I have yogurt. What a fantastic tribute to a phenomenal woman. Lois always made a person feel special with her beautiful smile and caring attitude. She loved her family and her neighbors. She will be missed, but she has a
loving husband and family who will keep her alive in their thoughts and

Your mom was always so warm and welcoming. I remember her with a beautiful smile, happy to see us, running through her yard. I remember spying on the wonderful events in the backyard, her sisters wedding, and I think it was Peter’s bar mitzvah party. I think it gave her joy. She never minded the extra kids hanging around her house. I remember my mom thought so highly of her! I’m sorry for your loss.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Lois' passing. She and I worked together on many projects, she as the writer and me as the designer. She was truly a lady, sensitive and caring and wonderful to work with. My sympathies to Irwin, particularly for having to see his beloved wife struggle with the disorder that finally took her.
