Dear Lou,
Happy Birthday. I went to your site (#6226) today. Betty and Sammy came too. We wanted you to know we were thinking of you. Instead of leaving you flowers (because they throw them away) we made a donation to the Jimmy Fund (your charity of choice) in your name. Lou, I find it hard to believe you are gone. I am grieving and it hurts a lot. I will finish my secretarial duties to the best of my ability. BTW - I sent Dr. Hochberg the Christmas card you wanted to send him. I wrote him a little note. I haven't heard back but you never know. And when I'm done with my secretarial job I'll be watching out for your 3 kids most especially Little Lou. And working on the book. I have lots of ideas. I just need time and quiet to get more done.

It's Christmas Eve, we just finished eating a nice Chicken dinner together at my house. I said a pray for you that you will be with me and my family tomorrow as we celebrate Christmas with YOU. I can not even begine to tell you how much I miss you more and more everyday. Rest and wait for me OK.

Not a minute goes by where i'am not thinking about you. Alot recently. I'm hurting inside so bad. Honestly the other day i was ready to pick up the phone and call you, and it kind of hit me hard. I know your watching over me and giving me some of your strenght I asked you for though. X-mas eve is tommorow and its jst not gonna be the same when I wake up x-mas day and call you to say merry x-mas but me and mom will come by to see you. I will always remember Lou's big smile. When ever I would see him at family events or run into him here or there he always gave me a hug and a smile. Every time I saw Lou he would say "we should plan a Gillis reunion or something" I wish that we had.
I also remember how he always gave Glenn a second chance, and a third and a fourth... Glenn loved him like a brother.

Hi Daddy,
Today was so hard for me to see you at the funeral home. I have to admit though you looked better then friday when you were fighting. I really believe when Friday I asked you to give me some of all that strenght you had, you really did, cause today I really held myself together. You really need to give some to Di thou she is not taking this very well. Lil Lou will be okay, he knows you love us, and he knows where he is going in life. Please watch over me Dad. I need your help right now. I will do everything you told me to do , I promise.. Sleep with the angels.. See you in the morning. I was saddened to hear that Lou left us early. His spirit has touched more of us than we will ever know. As a childhood friend I learned from him and applied those lessons in real life. Lou Gillis will always live on in my heart.

To everyone who knew Lou, I must say he never gave up the fight or lost spirit. The last thing he stated to me was expressing an interest in coaching Babe Ruth. We'll have him catch the high hit balls.
He won't be forgotten, that's for sure.
