Luther Davis Obituary

DAVIS, Dr. Luther, Jr. General Manager of Raytheon's Research Division for many years, died November 30 at his home in Wayland. Born in Mineola, NY. Son of Luther & Anna (Grod) Davis. He attended Newton schools & graduated at nineteen from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Spent World War II years at Radiation Laboratory in MIT and then earned his doctorate in nuclear physics from MIT. In 1949, Dr. Davis joined a newly-formed Raytheon Research Division where he developed many patents and served, for 18 years until his retirement, as General Manager. Mountain climbing, skiing, sailing, biking, camping and nature photography were among his many pleasures. He leaves his wife, Joanne (Wilder) Davis; his sons, Hunt Collyer Davis of Wayland and Mark Wilder Davis and his wife Rania, of Lexington; his daughter, Nancy Davis and her husband, Stuart A. McCrary of Winnetka, IL; and five grandchildren: Kate, Lauren and Douglas McCrary and Ian and Luke Davis. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 at 3 o'clock at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 169 Rice Road, Wayland, MA. In lieu of flowers, he may be remembered with a gift to the Appalachian Mountain Club, 5 Joy Street, Boston, MA 02108. Arrangements entrusted to the care of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home of WAYLAND
