LYNDA TRIPP Obituary

TRIPP, Lynda (Hendricks) Age 84, a resident of Taunton, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, July 3, 2025. She was the beloved wife of John "Jack" Tripp, with whom she shared 36 wonderful years of marriage. She was born in Amarillo, Texas, daughter of the late Moody and Juanita (Owen) Hendricks. Lynda grew up in Monroe, Louisiana and arrived in the city of Taunton in 1968. A lifelong educator, Lynda dedicated her life to nurturing young minds and championing the value of education in her beloved community of Taunton. Lynda spent many years teaching Honors English at Taunton High School, where she inspired generations of students with her passion for literature and language. She was known not only for her deep knowledge of the subject, but also for the care and encouragement she offered to each student who entered her classroom. Honors garnered by Lynda over her career include the Massachusetts Teachers Association Teacher of the Year Award, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society's Award for Area of Outstanding Work, and recognition from the National Council of Teachers of English. She also proudly served as the English Department Chair at Taunton H.S. for many years. Lynda traveled the world with Jack, embracing new cultures and experiences with joy and curiosity. Their partnership was marked by mutual respect and shared passions: none more evident than their love for Taunton High School athletics. While Jack served as Head Softball Coach at Taunton High, Lynda was known as the team "mom" and unofficial bench coach for generations of softball players. She also served the Taunton community as a corporator of the Morton Health Foundation, a board member of the Taunton Federal Credit Union, and as a charter member of the Taunton Historic Commission and The Friends of Taunton Public Library. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jack; and is fondly remembered by Dan and Lynn Tripp and family of Raynham, MA; Chris and Kelley Tripp and family of West Roxbury, MA; and Barry and Jennifer Tripp and family of Arlington, MA. She was predeceased by her parents and her only sister, Sheryle Hendricks Firenza. Visiting Hours: Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, at Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Avenue, TAUNTON. She will be laid to rest privately in Mayflower Hill Cemetery, Taunton.
