MARGARET BARRETT Obituary

BARRETT, Margaret "Peggy" Of Framingham, formerly of Mattapan, Bedford, and Woburn, died peacefully on May 3, 2022. Beloved daughter of the late Marie (Wilson) and Thomas McDermott. Devoted mother of Megan Dowling and her husband Daniel, and Erin Barrett. Loving Nana of Aidan, Nora, Brendan, Kate, and Robert. Sister of John McDermott, Mary Heckman, and the late Thomas McDermott. Also survived my many cherished nieces and nephews. Visitation in the O'Brien Funeral Home, 146 Dorchester St., SOUTH BOSTON, on Tuesday, May 10th from 4-8 pm. Funeral Mass at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, 1400 Washington Street, South End, on Wednesday, May 11th at 11am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree. Peggy taught for many years as a former Sister of St. Joseph, during which time her religious name was Sister Thomas Marie. Afterward, she remained a lifetime member of the CSJ Associates. She was a longtime labor and delivery nurse at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, where she was an integral member of the HEAL (Help Educate After Loss) committee. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peggy's name may be made to the HEAL Program c/o Newton-Wellesley Hospital Developmental Office, 2014 Washington Street, Newton, MA 02462 or The Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston, 637 Cambridge Street, Brighton, MA 02135. I was very sorry to read this obituary about Peggy Barrett. I actually knew her as Sr. Thomas Marie. I have heard many over the years wax eloquently about a special teacher who made a difference in their life . For me, that was Sister Thomas Marie. She encouraged her and convinced a little boy from South Boston that he could aspire to, and achieve, anything. Sister I did just that. You were a wonderful person who I will never forget.
