Marianna McGurty was my Fairy Godmother. When I was a child and we came to visit, my brother Rob and I got to stay with Auntie Mae & Uncle Tom, (who actually were our God-parents.) Even though they had Mary and Nancy and Marian and Theresa and Tommy, they found room for us and made us feel not only welcome, but treasured. Auntie Mae asked me for a list of my favorite desserts, and then each night she made them from scratch! Pumpkin pie, then strawberry shortcake, then gingerbread, all topped with whipped cream. I felt like Someone Special because she did that for me! But it wasn't til decades later that the fullness of her generosity and kindness hit me--when I was a wife and mother and working, and realized how Auntie Mae had worked on many of those days and had to be very tired when she came home, but still took the time to bake for me as if every day there was my birthday! And, she was good spirited and tolerant of us kids being kids and it was a relaxed and warm environment. I'm sure Heaven is just that much more hospitable, now that she is there! To Auntie Josie, Auntie Nancy, Uncle Sal and Aunt Ruth, to my dad and mom, (Phil & Gina) and to all my cousins and Family, I hope you find comfort in your memories of your dear sister, mother, and aunt.
With love and gratitude,
Sharina
