BADER, Marie (Underwood) Marie U. Bader (1947-2023) On the morning of March 9, 2023, Marie U Bader passed away peacefully, at her home in Durham, NH, succumbing to cancer. Marie was born the fifth of seven children to George B. Underwood, Jr. and Marie (Saunders) Underwood. During her formative years, the family moved multiple times, finally settling in Portsmouth, NH. Marie graduated from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in 1965, and then went on to college at Indiana State University. During her studies there she met her future husband, Tom Bader. They married in 1969, a union that spanned 54 years. Marie reinvented herself many times over the years, working as a social worker, fundraiser, and executive director for non-profit organizations, all while moving with her growing family to South Carolina, Indiana, Michigan, California, and Northern Kentucky. It was while living in Kentucky that Marie became interested in the field of mediation. She began co-mediating family cases at Beach Acres in Cincinnati and volunteering at Hamilton County juvenile court, eventually being contracted with both agencies. Marie found she had a passion for mediation and subsequently earned an MA in conflict resolution at Antioch University. In 2001, she founded her own practice, TALKWORKS! Mediation Services, and joined the Ohio Mediation Association. When Marie and Tom became empty-nesters and then retired, they relocated to New Hampshire in 2017, close to the ocean Marie so loved and into the heart of Red Sox Nation, of which she had been a die-hard fan all her life. Time with family remained a priority and being a grandmother was her greatest joy. Ever involved civically, she became a staunch advocate and volunteer board member of Oyster River Womenade (www.orwomenade.org). Per Marie's wishes, a tree will be planted in her name, nourished by her ashes, and a Celebration of her Life will be arranged in the foreseeable future. Marie was predeceased by both her parents; and a brother, George B. Underwood III. She is survived by her husband, Tom Bader; a daughter, Jennifer Bader Mayer, and husband Steve Mayer of Norwood, MA; a daughter, Amy Blatchford, and husband Dan Blatchford of Greenland, NH; and a daughter, Crystal Webster, and husband Shaun Webster of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Abigail, Amelia and Audrey Webster of Lexington, KY and Benjamin and Liana Blatchford of Greenland, NH; a step-granddaughter, Sarah Mayer of Ashland, MA; a sister, Patricia Underwood of Framingham, MA; a sister, Nina Underwood of Somerville, MA; a sister, Beth Underwood of Portsmouth, NH; a sister, Joan Saunders of Mesa, AZ; a sister, Terry Delaney of Exeter, NH; a nephew, George B. Underwood lV of Kenneth City, FL; a niece, Cecile-Marie Underwood, and her partner Chris Haskell of Gilsum, NH; and a niece, Meaghan Underwood of Brentwood, NH.
