MARIE POWER Obituary

POWER, Marie Maguire Of Norwood and Chatham, formerly of Mission Hill, passed away on October 5, 2025, surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of 58 years of the late Richard F. Power. Loving daughter of the late Owen J. and Mary (Murphy) Maguire. Dear sister of the late Eileen C. Fitzgerald and Owen J. Maguire, Jr. Devoted mother of Siobhan Power Santisi and her husband, Frank, Meredith Nichols and her husband, Mark, Jennifer Power and her husband, Bob Litterer, all of Westwood, and Richard M. Power of Canton. Proud and adoring grandmother of Michael Santisi, Katherine Santisi, Monica Nichols, Caroline Power, Elena Nichols and Justin Power. Cousin of Francis C. (Cliff) and John Thompson and the late Geraldine DeCelle. Aunt to many special Maguire, Fitzgerald and Power nieces and nephews. Loving sister-in-law of Dorothy Maguire, Rita Power, Chailang Palacios and the late Bernard Fitzgerald, Justin E. Power, Jr., Leo T. Power, Ruth Campbell, Robert Power, Mary Louise Brennan and Margaret J. Shea. Marie and Richard started their married life together on Martha's Vineyard. With a stop in Canton along the way, they settled in Norwood to raise their family. Marie opened her home to everyone and ensured that no one was alone on a holiday. She loved hosting family and friends and was famous for her stuffed quahogs. Marie made lasting, treasured friendships at every stage of her life. She enjoyed summers in Chatham with wonderful neighbors and frequent guests, filling the house with love, music and laughter. She was an avid reader and a lifelong artist. Marie loved to travel with her husband, especially to her father's hometown of Carlingford, Louth, Ireland, her most favorite place, where she made close connections with family and friends. Marie attended Notre Dame Academy, Mission High School, Catherine Laboure School of Nursing and UMass Boston. She had a long, varied and accomplished career in nursing that spanned the OR, labor and delivery, geriatrics, school nursing, visiting nurse and a 20-year career at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, managing the admission screening and continuing care department. Some of Marie's most satisfying work included serving on the committee to establish the first dedicated AIDS unit in the state at the Shattuck Hospital, as an AIDS educator for AIDS Action and as a volunteer at the Shattuck Shelter at its inception. She served on the Board of Directors of the Norwood Visiting Nurse Association and as Chair of the Legislative Committee of the Boston Regional Continuing Care Nurses. Marie was committed to her patients and was known to offer a helping hand long after the workday ended. In lieu of flowers, Marie wished to honor her sister by supporting ALS Research, at The Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS at MGH. Donations may be mailed to: Massachusetts General Hospital Development Office, Attention: E. Monteiro, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114. October 7, 2025

My heart goes out to you Siobhan, Meredith, Jennifer & Rich and their families. Your Mom was a wonder. I loved seeing the stages of her life from meeting her at age 4 when I was in kindergarten all the way to our lunch at the Black Dog a year or so ago.

You were all so lucky to have had Marie for a mother, grandmother, aunt, friend. Hugs and love to you all.

Love, Irene Gerulskis Tewksbury & Matt Tewksbury
