MARK MAHONEY Obituary

MAHONEY, Mark Roch Of Duxbury, died on October 26th at the Jordan Hospital at the age of 63. He is survived by his beloved wife Ilene Horvitz of Duxbury, his mother Dorothy "Rocky" (Roch) Mahoney of Needham, his brother Dennis Mahoney and his wife Judy of Wheaton, IL; and his sisters Sheila Friswell and her husband Don of Natick and Norah Xenos and her husband Don of Westborough. Son of the late John T. Mahoney and brother of the late Kate Mahoney Curtsinger. He also leaves his nieces and nephews: Justin and Owen Curtsinger, Jessica and Sarah Friswell; Andrew and Gregory Xenos; John Mahoney and his wife Allyson, Grant Mahoney, Rose Mahoney and her fiance Steven Anthony. Mark was born in Duxbury and graduated from Needham High School, Boston University and Duke University where he received his Master's degree in Political Science. He was active in Duxbury town government where he served as the Chairman of the Conservation Commission and on the Finance Committee for several years. Mark was an avid antique duck decoy collector and enjoyed Irish music, playing the Irish whistle and concertina. A funeral service will be held on Monday October 29th at the First Parish Church in Duxbury at 1 PM followed by burial at the Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury. There are no visiting hours. Arrangements made by the Richard Davis Funeral Homes of Plymouth and Manomet. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Wildlands Trust of South Eastern Mass, 165 West St, Duxbury, MA 02332 www.wildlandstrust.org or to Congregation Shirat Hayam, P.O. Box 2727, Duxbury, MA 02331. Shiva hours will be from 6:00-8:00PM Tuesday, October 30, and Wednesday, October 31. On-line condolences may be made richarddavisfuneralhome.com

It was a real shock to find out that Mark had died. A friend from way back, it was great to reconnect a while ago thanks to FB. He was a real nice chap and just a lovely sense of humour. Ilene, please accept my sincere sympathies for your loss.

I worked in Mark's unit for a few years. He was so bright, committed, insightful, helpful and kind. I am so sorry he is no longer here. His talent, energy and gentle nature will be greatly missed.
