Mark was a sincere, dedicated man. He took his work seriously, and had a youthful enthusiasm for it. Mark remains easily one of the central figures in the development of music/video appreciation and use in the entertainment industry. He would say I gave him his start. He returned it in kind.
Thinking of him always brings a smile.

Thinking about Mark today and how far ahead he was in music video. It is becoming the standard that songs have videos but he worked hard to increase the visibility for music videos in the pre-YouTube era when it was expensive to make videos and there was no on-demand outlet to see them (except jukebox network in some locations).

Thank you Mark for you contributions that continue to evolve.

We would like to send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mark Weinstein.

Mark was indeed a very good man whose presence will be greatly missed. Mark seemed to live life to the fullest and loved every moment of life. Paula (Groove Parlor) and I spent Sunday night on the telephone reflecting on Mark and all of our Mark “Moments” from CVC to his weekly phone calls for tracking. We went to his website and read his last blog entry on September 13, 2007 about the cruise he just went on with his family.

Mark would talk to me about his family from time to time and I am glad he got to spend some of his last vacation with them.

Mark’s blog was very detailed and I could tell he enjoyed his time with his family and watching various people of different cultures mesh together all entwined by the music that he had a part in introducing to the masses.

I have never known anyone so into their business as Mark Weinstein. He was so detailed and about his music. I am just happy that I did get a chance to call him a colleague and friend and I will really miss Mark. He taught me a number of things and he is a true example of a man about his business.

Even though my contact with Mark was limited I could feel his presence in the people he chose to represent him at RnR freelance. We were just a little show out of Omaha, Nebraska but that did not matter to Mark. All that mattered was that were doing the job and he was going to be there to help us out no matter how big or small the market or show was. Everyone mattered to him. Mark will be missed in the music video community.

As I sit here and write I can hear Mark's easy gentle voice giving me words of wisdom. I spoke to Mark the day before he left us and his last words to me were, "Thank you very much" and I replied, "Thank you for everything" I'm can not imagine not talking to Mark each week like I have for these many years. I will miss him dearly. He was a wonderful person whose passion for life was a big part of who he truly was! Goodbye my friend and thank you for all you’ve brought to this world.

Mark will be sorely missed by so many people. My relationship with him goes back some twenty years and in that time I had found him to be a person of unflinching integrity. Him professionalism, perseverance and one of a kind personality made him an unequaled force in the music business. He was always a straight shooter and you could always count on him to be “real” with you. I enjoyed his unique brand of humor and, as well, learned a lot from him throughout the years. My deepest condolences go out to all of his loved ones. I know everyone who he touched with his life and who got to know him is better for it. He will be missed.

I still cannot believe this sad news. When Mark was made, the mold was broken. To say he was unique is an understatement. The music business is full of characters, but Mark tops the list. He shall be missed.

Have just been gutted about the news of Mark's passing. I worked with him for about five years, and, when I started in video promotion, he was one of the only people who would even take my calls. What a good man. And what a character! I remember "tracking" calls that turned into us ranting about music, work, our love lives, whatever....like Jeff said, Mark was the real deal and he never showed me anything but total kindness. He made me laugh (and drove me nuts), he was a good listener, he rightfully demanded excellence from my staff and myself and he was such an inspiration.

It feels like a tie to my past has been cut. New York won't be the same without him and neither will music as far as I'm concerned.

People should understand and hold onto, with great delicacy, the fact that people like Mark exist. Cause it's rare. Will just miss the dude a ton.

Mark was among the first group of promoters I dealt with way back in 1986 and his passing hit me with deep sorrow. I'll always remember the warm conversations and how truly touched he would be when I would remember his birthday. Always a good guy, I'll miss him.

October 4, 2007

Mark followed me closely through my several company changes in the past 12 years of being in the retail programming field and has been one of the few constants in this hectic and ever-changing field. He was always very intent on getting his projects the maximum exposure and would put me through the ringer anytime I expressed an inability to program a video.

His dogged determination sometimes made me gulp when I’d answer the phone and he’d say “David this is Mark…” but I knew that any push he’d give was only to make good things happen. That was part of his charm.

The other part of his charm was the simple fact that he was a very good soul. I have many fine memories of dinners with him on my semi-frequent visits to NY. He was my friend and will be sorely missed. RIP Mark.

I'm gonna miss Mark Weinstein.

As I look back on the 17 years that I knew Mark, I am immediately sad that he is gone.

I must say he defined the term "colorful character".

Even though he started his music video career well over 20 years ago - There was nothing old school or hesitant about Mark. He was a forward thinker and problem solver of the highest level.
His conviction made you stand up and take notice... and believe in him and to follow him!

As the competition, this quality could be quite disconcerting.

I always thought he was a gracious man with great charm. From my time as a wide-eyed pup to the stately veteran that I have been forced to become, Mark always took a minute to say HI at every function.
He was always on the look out... for a new idea, new contact, new music....

He would reveal - every time that he complained about this or that - his true affection for this business. He saw more of what was right with it than what was wrong with it.
I don't know if he retained this quality to the very end, but it was always reassuring to see his face and know that there was a rant coming next.

Every time we hung up the phone I always felt a little more motivated - whether the topic was music or humanity. He challenged you to do the right thing - right then and there.

He was the real deal and impossible to replace.

Like I said, at the top - I'm gonna miss Mark. I already do.

I'm deeply saddened by the loss of our close friend Mark. I've known Mark professionally for over 20 years and we received our first ever music video serviced from RnR Freelance. In this chaotic industry we call music, Mark gave nothing less than 110% to key music video programmers across the country in visual and promotional support. Needless to say, Mark was a legend in his own lifetime. Our deepest sympathies and blessings to his entire family !

Wow, I am still in shock, my friend, buddy, pal. thanks for the good time and the memories. You did so much for so many. The industry will not be the same without your weekly phone calls and humor. You enjoyed what you did and knew how to party. God bless you my friend. I will miss you

Mark has always been a very good buddy for the past 20 years not just business assoc. but a true pal. He would help you in any way that he could and give you the shirt off his back. He worked hard for you and his clients.
Its still very hard for me to accept this, I can't picture Mark mad, angry, upset or depressed. I only remember his smile. I miss you buddy and I want to know why.

Mr. Weinstein was one of my first video distributers when I started "CHECK IT OUT!" back in 1992. His consistent support has made my program the longest running music show here in the central coast of California. One will never replace a man as good natured and true to his craft. Although we are on opposites coasts he was always well received. A true icon in the music business, let us continue to celebrate his spirit in all that we are blessed to do.

Mark was the Chuck Berry of Music Video Promotion. He invented it, and excelled at it for longer than anyone else. He forged a path that all music video promoters would eventually travel. I was always inspired by his tenacity. Mark was always very cool to me, despite the fact that we were competitors and quite often were going after the same potential clients. To all his friends and family, I send my heartfelt condolences during this very difficult time.
