Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brighton Memorial Chapel, Inc. on Mar. 15, 2026.
It is with sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and "Poppy", Morris "Morrie" H. Weinstein,
Morrie is predeceased by his parents, Rose, Sam, and Ida Weinstein; siblings Seymour (and Myrna) Weinstein and Lois Rockoff DeCoste; and beloved daughter, Debra Lynn.
He leaves behind his wonderful wife of 51 years, Beverly, their children Sheri (Ivan) Levi, Shelly Weinstein, Rene (Simon) Firmin, and Scott (Alison) Weinstein, his brother Rodger and sister-in-law Linda Weinstein, many nephews and nieces and cousins and eight amazing legacies: Jeremy, Elliana, and Samantha Levi; Delaney, Ryan and Griffin Firmin;, and Drew and Ari Weinstein.
Morrie lived a long and storied life. Born in 1931, he grew up during the Depression and WWII, working at his father's bicycle shop. During his teen years he often traveled to NYC with his buddies to listen to Jazz and befriended Dizzy Gillespie. After graduating high school, he moved to Florida seeking fun and adventure, while selling vacuum cleaners door to door.
Upon returning to Rochester, Morrie started selling furniture. Over the next 3 decades, his business and sales acumen, and tireless hard work led him to becoming President and a partner of Flanigan's Furniture. Morrie grew Flanigan's from one store into New York State's largest retail furniture company. In the mid 1980's, when Flanigan's was sold to Raymour Furniture, he stayed on with the company until he finally retired at age 90.
Morrie and Beverly, enjoyed over 51 years together- raising their family, traveling the world, spending time with family and friends, and being active in their synagogue and various Jewish organizations.
Morris started his leadership legacy as the National President of the ULP fraternity. Then through the years his passion for Jewish organizations continued. He served as Treasurer, then President of Temple B'rith Kodesh ("TBK") where he also established the TBK Brotherhood. He also served as Chairman of the Board for the Jewish Home of Rochester and was elected to the National Board for URJ (Union for Reform Judaism) and elected President of the NE Lakes Council. After the loss of their daughter, Debra Lynn, he and Beverly founded the Debra Lynn Memorial Fund, bringing educational speakers and music events to TBK. They also supported the educational needs of several Ethiopian Israeli girls who became their "extended daughters".
During his last years, Morrie could be found at the JCC working out and kibitzing with friends when he wasn't travelling with his wife or spending time with his grandchildren.
Morrie enjoyed Jazz, Broadway musicals, old movies, travel, chocolate and spending time with family and friends. He touched many lives and helped many people, and he will be deeply missed.
