Marybeth HURLEY Obituary

HURLEY, Marybeth "MB" (O'Keefe) Of Lexington, passed away peacefully at home, on November 3, 2025.

Born in New York City, to the late Gregory and Mary Saunders O'Keefe of Brooklyn, New York, Marybeth was the youngest of five children. She graduated from Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York, with a bachelor's degree in English.

In 1954, MB married Arthur J. Hurley, Jr. "AJ" at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. The couple settled in Lexington, where they raised their seven children and made their home for 71 years.

In the late 1970s, MB joined AJ in the family business. She skillfully balanced professional success and family life. A true pioneer, she led by example: instilling independence, confidence, and responsibility in all those around her.

MB and AJ cherished summers on Cape Cod and winters in Jupiter, Florida, where they enjoyed long walks on the beach. They traveled widely, but home was always where they most loved to be.

MB was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, AJ; as well as her sons, Drew Hurley and Arthur J. Hurley, III. She is survived by her children, Janne Clare, Matthew Hurley and his wife, Joan Kellar, Jill Hurley, Marisa Hurley and her husband, Michael McSweeny and Lara Hurley; and by her daughters-in-law, Mary Drozda and Christine Fazzone. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alexander Clare and his wife, Andrea, Casey Hurley, Olivia McSweeny and Lucas McSweeny.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Brigid Parish, 2001 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington. Interment will follow at Mount Auburn Cemetery.

I remember seeing Marybeth and Arthur at family Christmas parties in the 1950s. Arthur Jr was our first cousin. My mother, Agnes Hurley, was Arthur Sr´s sister. I remember on occasion Arthur Sr would let us use his box seats at Fenway Park for Red Sox games. It was quite a treat.
