MATTHEW BROWN Obituary

Brown, Matthew Barclay Jr.
Of Stuart, Florida and formerly Duxbury, Massachusetts and Greenwich, Connecticut, passed away on March 31, 2013 at his home. He was 87 years old. Mr. Brown was born in Louisiana and raised in Texas. After serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII, he enrolled in the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the diving team. Mr. Brown worked in sales, advertising and real estate throughout the Mid Atlantic and New England states. He was a print and television model in the sixties, making an appearance in the grand hall of New York's Grand Central Station as the "Tareyton Man - I'd Rather Fight Than Switch". Mr. Brown loved to sail and play golf. He was the diving coach at Duxbury High School. He is pre deceased by Ellen Mertens Brown, his wife of 30 years and his son Kyle Barclay Brown. Survivors include his wife, Pamet Ward Brown, two sisters, Sharon Moore and Vicky Brown along with his nine children, his three stepchildren, his 30 grandchildren, and his 6 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday April, 13, 2013 at 11:00 at St. John the Evangelist, 1410 Washington St., Duxbury, MA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be sent to Pathways, Inc., 175 Milbank Ave., Greenwich, CT 06830.

It was only for the last ten years that we got to know each other as neighbors in West Barnstable. I wish I could have known you for many more years because I enjoyed you so much. Goodbye, Barclay. I will be eternally grateful to know you were my friend. I will never forget you and my memories of our times together will always bring me happiness. Rest peacefully until we can meet again.
