MAUREEN SWEENEY

SWEENEY, Maureen (Hanley) Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully, on June 26, 2025, at age 86. She was surrounded by love, in a house full of over 40 years of the best summer memories in Falmouth, MA. Maureen was known for her quick wit and self-deprecating sense of humor, often delivered with a knowing wink of the eye. She was easy to laugh and immediately made people welcome; she made fast and deep friendships with many. Her sense of gratitude and happiness was a constant, saying "things couldn't be better or nicer than they are" even during her last few weeks. Maureen's life was full from the start, as she grew up in a family of seven children in Mattapan, Massachusetts to Lucy and John Hanley. Smart, hardworking, and with an appreciable amount of defiance, Maureen went on to receive a math scholarship to Notre Dame Academy, her BA from Regis College, and her Masters in English from Northeastern University. She was most grateful for the beautiful life that she built with her husband of 46 years, Joe and her daughters Caitlin and Kara. Their marriage was the definition of true partnership, respect, and love. Her commitment to being an incredible mother, be it prioritizing education, crafting perfect summer days, instilling a love of travel, or loving unconditionally - set the bar. Maureen leaves behind her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren, Caitlin, Bill, Will and Brendan Uniack, Kara, Tom, Tommy, and Charlie Egan. Siblings, Joseph, Paul, and Ellen; and many nieces and nephews. She joins her husband Joe; brother, John; and sisters, Sheilagh and Kathleen in peace. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 7, from 3-6 p.m., at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 584 (Rt.28A) West Falmouth Hwy., WEST FALMOUTH. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Church, 167 East Falmouth Hwy., East Falmouth, on Tuesday, July 8, at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
