MAURICE LOCKLIN Obituary

LOCKLIN, Maurice G. "Mory" Of Duxbury, Maurice George "Mory" Locklin passed away on December 22, 2015, at the age of 85. Mory was a resident of Duxbury Village in Duxbury, Massachusetts, since 2013, after having retired to Cummaquid, MA on Cape Cod in 1988. He leaves his beloved wife of 66 years, Alice Pommerenke Locklin, daughters, Patricia Robinson of Kensington, MD and Lori Maloney of Norwell, MA, son, Ron Locklin of Acton, MA, sons-in law, John Robinson, Keith Maloney, and Tony Cruz-Uribe, daughter-in-law, Lisa Locklin, 8 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Mory was pre-deceased by daughter, Pamela, in 2003. Mory led a long and productive life. He was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on June 1, 1930, and he embodied the small-town Midwestern spirit that he grew up with in central Wisconsin. He graduated from Appleton West High School in 1948, was an outstanding student and 3-sport athlete, and he was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2010. He was salutatorian of his college class at Lawrence College in 1954 (where he played basketball and was an all-Conference football star), and followed Lawrence president Nathan Pusey to Harvard, where he graduated from Harvard Business School with distinction in 1956. After being recruited by Corning Glass Works, he spent his entire 32-year career at Corning, building and managing television tube factories around the world. Mory spent considerable time living outside of the US, including 5 years in Canada, 3 years in France, 2 years in China, and a year in India. A highlight was when he and Alice lived in Shanghai in the early 1980's, shortly after China opened up its economy to the West and long before there were skyscrapers in that city. Mory was an indefatigable and argumentative political conservative, but always let his good nature, kindness and generosity stay in control. He loved military history and was fascinated in particular by the battles of World War II. He was a die-hard Red Sox fan, and a season's ticket holder for their glory decade that began in 2004. He had a great sense of humor, sometimes joking that he was a failure because his brothers Ron (Rose Bowl 1953, NY Giants, passed away in 2009) and Stuart (Cleveland Indians, living today in Albuquerque New Mexico) were professional athletes, and he was just not good enough to become one. Mory also possessed a very sharp memory and keen intellect, was a voracious reader, and he was also an amateur philosopher. One of his favorite and often-repeated musings was "Time Marches On". Despite all of his academic, athletic, and business accomplishments, Mory's greatest achievements included his long and happy marriage to Alice, and assuring that his extended family benefited from a strong education. He never lost sight of what mattered the most. A memorial service will be held at Duxbury Village at a date to be determined. I am very saddened of the passing of Mr. Locklin. He was a very nice man, and I enjoyed engaging in conversations with him at family functions. He was always abreast of what was going on in the daily news; especially politics and the Red Sox. He also had a good sense of humor and a hearty laugh. He will be missed. To Lori, Ron and Pat & families my thoughts and prayers are with you

We walked similar paths in the world. But I was no athlete. Still remember Mory's deft basketball playing, and his polite nod in passing in HS hall-way. Admired his academic achievements. Indirectly he was a symbolic guide-on for my later attainments. May all those he held dear accept my personal affection during these sad days.
