There was a man within whose eyes
were virtue, honor - and were wise.
He shared blessings with humankind,
a gentle spirit, and brilliant mind.

All living things would feel his love,
while he kept faith in God above.

Although renown, his humility
reflected true nobility

With skill and care his saving hands
from Kashmir came into these lands.

His quest - to serve the human race
with mellow voice and smiling face.
He´d heal the hearts of those distressed:
patients, families, and give his best.
Though many lives reprieve did get
and yet none could repay the debt.

He nurtured all as family,
a friend and like uncle to me.
One mournful day we gathered round
to wish him peace beneath the ground

Fond memories of him were there,
the source of smiles and every tear.

Once laid below there was a breeze,
soothing to all and granted ease.

I can´t explain all unseen things,
but what we felt were Angel´s wings.

They came and took his radiant soul
to Paradise, his final goal.

He´s in a better place, I know
to flourish like the plants he´d grow,

and rise again with blooms as well
that´s sweeter than a rose´s smell.

I hope that I will one day see
that garden in Eternity.

My friend and mentor, kind and true,
Dr. Ashraf, may God bless you.

I knew of Dr. Ashraf when I was a fellow at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. Being from Kashmir myself, I was naturally proud of him and his accomplishments. He was a kind and caring person, and his patients often spoke so highly of him.
I had met Marion-his wife in passing when she was a resident in medicine and rotated through Joslin Diabetes Center. I still remember the young lady with a beautiful smile.
May the good lord keep the family in His grace.

Dr.Mian M. Ashraf,a pioneer and builder of Muslim Community who promoted interfaith dialogue and tolerance served his community and needy humans all his life. I wish his family and muslim community in Mass. should highlight his services and contribution to his community and his profession. It will help younger generation of his faith to know what founding fathers of their community have done for all of us in the USA.

Mother's Day was made a little sweeter for me from the mid 80's until 2002 when Dr.Ashraf performed life saving surgery on my mother. Everyday then became Mother's Day for me. I know that heaven has received a great gift.
