DR. MICHAEL J. AHERN III

1939 - 2018

AHERN, Dr. Michael J., III "Sonny" Age 79, died July 18, 2018 in the V.A. Medical Center in Bay Pines, Florida. Michael was born January 22, 1939 to Michael J. and Catherine (Cameron) Ahern II. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 until 1962. Michael graduated from Salem State College in 1965 and the University of Tennessee in 1974. He began his career at the University of Toledo, where he taught Finance in the College of Business Administration and later retired as Professor Emeritus in 1993.

Michael lived in Ottawa Hills, Ohio but had a beach home in Wellfleet, Massachusetts where he enjoyed entertaining his friends during the summer. He particularly loved fireworks on the 4th of July. Michael enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble but hated to lose, so he chose not to lose often. He not only was intelligent, but he also had a vast knowledge of a plethora of topics. Michael will be remembered as an intellectual with common sense who enjoyed collecting educational degrees.

Surviving are his son, Dennis Ahern; stepson, Russell Ahern; sister, Muriel ("Blackie") Black; sister-in-law, Carole Hill; nieces, Bonnie Hart and Susan Norton; and nephew, James Black. Also surviving is his cousin Dan (Sharron) Cameron who was by his side through his final days. Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Ronny Hill.

Dr. Ahern's Life Celebration will be held Tuesday, August 14 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Urbanski Funeral Home, a Life Celebration Home, 5055 Secor Rd., Toledo, Ohio, where the funeral service will begin at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Nate Elarton presiding.
