IDE, Michael Anthony It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Anthony Ide. A man of great integrity, creativity, and curiosity, Mike was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil on June 19, 1951 and died on November 8, 2025. He passed away peacefully at home in Hingham, MA, with his family by his bedside. He was the son of the late Leslie and Una Graham Ide.

Mike was a boarding student at Kings College in Taunton, England before immigrating to the United States, where he graduated from University of Rhode Island with a degree in industrial engineering. He led a successful career in the newspaper industry working at the Providence Journal and Boston Globe, where he assumed the role of Vice President of Production.

He was a man of many passions that included sailing, photography, music, traveling, and woodworking, which he later transitioned to a full-time business, Ide Woodcrafts.

Mike was a proud member of both the Hingham Yacht Club and New Bedford Yacht Club. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed cruising the East Coast with family and friends from Canada to Bermuda, with a special fondness for Buzzards Bay. He volunteered for the Town of Hingham representing the Conservation Committee, as well as a number of positions for the Hingham Yacht Club.

He is survived by his loving wife, Tricia (Newman); son, Andrew; and daughter, Charlotte.

From his first marriage, he is survived by his son, Matthew; and daughter, Katie (Vinovrski); and family. He is also survived by his two brothers, Geoffrey and Robert.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mike's memory to Norwell VNA and Hospice.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for early 2026, with a scattering of his ashes in Buzzards Bay, his favorite place.
