MICHAEL SMITH Obituary

SMITH, Michael R. Of Sherborn, age 47, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous nine month battle with cancer. Michael was the devoted husband of Cassie Lincoln Smith and father of their beloved twin daughters, Ella and Whitney. He is survived by them, his parents, Dick and Sally Smith of Harwich, his sister, Molly Smith Dugan and Josh Gould of Needham, his niece, Ali, nephews, Nick and Brayden, Cassie's mother, Chris Lincoln, of Newtown, CT, Kari and Scott Pesavento, of Milford, CT, the Victor C. Minich family relatives in Davidsonville, MD, and the Robert D. Smith family relatives in Beverly, MA. Mike was raised in Harvard, MA and leaves many beloved friends, teachers and coaches from his Bromfield School days and from his days at UMass Amherst where he graduated with a degree in Political Science. He majored in Middle Eastern Studies which took him to Cairo, Egypt for a year. He had a lifelong love of adventure, from scuba diving in the Red Sea, to hang-gliding in Utah, skiing and mountain biking in Switzerland, and bungie jumping on his honeymoon in New Zealand. Michael was always a voracious reader and a formidable trivia and scrabble opponent. After several years at Family Education Network in Boston, where he met Cassie, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to found the highly successful Woodland Building and Renovation company in the Boston suburbs which he had just expanded. Michael was known for his outgoing and fun personality, his warmth, his generosity, and the stability he brought to the people he loved. He was a natural with kids and could always make them laugh. An athlete himself, he coached his daughters' soccer and basketball teams and was generous with his time and talent. Michael was beloved in the Sherborn community, and by all who knew him. Should friends desire, contributions may be made to Friends of the Smiths and sent to Middlesex Savings Bank, 31 North Main St., Sherborn, MA 01770. I remember Michael as a sweet little boy who loved to swing in his and his sister´s swing set in the backyard. He loved McDonalds and loved to go on trips to Cape Cod. He was a happy boy who had a full life at his passing. May his family embrace the good times they had with him as well as the sympathy from relatives and friends. Love, Brenda

Mike was an important part of the community, for example, recently organizing a rebuild of the town playground. I will miss his witty personality, and attention to detail whether it be trivia games or basketball. Keeping Cassie, the children and family in our prayers.

Many years ago Richard and Sally were on vacation heading to New Brunswick. They stopped at the Gagner home in Maine, Smittys Aunt Annie .We kept Michael with us for a couple of days. He was probably 2 yr old at the time. I was around 12 yo and was thrilled to have such a cute little guy in the house. He was such a sweet boy and it was the only time I ever saw him but its obvious he grew into a very special and loved man. May your memories bring you comfort .

Mike was an amazing man full of energy and always a smile and a joke to help lift your spirits. I am so saddened he has left this earth so soon in his life. Bless his soul and much love and thoughts to his wife Cassie and, children and family. His life lifted and enriched everyone he met .
