MIRIAM BERNSTEIN Obituary

BERNSTEIN, Miriam Etta Miriam Etta Bernstein was born August 17, 1956, to Dr. Alan and Mrs. Doris (Rabinowitz) Bernstein in Montgomery, Alabama, when her father was working for the United States Communicable Diseases Center (CDC). She died after a 3 year battle with ovarian cancer at Newton-Wellesley Hospital on Feb 1, 2025. When Miriam was 2 years old, the family relocated to Lancaster, PA in order for her father to begin working at Wyeth Laboratories in Marietta, PA. Miriam attended the Lancaster public schools and in 1974 graduated from Hempfield High School, where she was the yearbook editor. After high school Miriam attended Tufts University in Somerville, MA, where she graduated with a degree in Sociology. After graduation, she worked at Family Services of Greater Boston and also at Platinum Construction LLC as an office manager. Within the family she went by "Mim" or "Aunt Mim" – a ray of sunshine to all who knew her. She was quick witted and ready with a pun on even the most mundane topic. Miriam was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, watching each game on television, and able to recite every player's statistics. Miriam is survived by her brother, David (Kathe) Bernstein of Wayland, MA; her brother Saul Bernstein of Lancaster, PA, her nephews, Jon (Deepthi) Bernstein of Los Angeles, CA, Brian Bernstein of New York and beloved partner of many years, Merick Bahm of Newton, MA.

You have a birthday tomorrow. You are the most sweetest and kindest I have ever had the pleasure to get to know. I miss you terribly. It's been 6 months since you been gone. I shake my head every time I think about you and ask myself why. I have been told the good die first. Where ever you are today I am hoping that you are in a good place and feel no pain. I love you dearly my friend and always will. I am hoping that when that day for me to go we will meet again. Happy birthday angel.

Miriam was such a ray of light to my mother (in willow valley) and us (her daughters) I shared travel photos and fun emails with her all the way until January. We met through our parents as Willow Valley - her love and attentiveness to her folks was such an inspiration. Her compassion, humor and curiosity were such an inspiration. I´m sorry she had to suffer and know that she is in a better place. Peace to her family and life partner of so many years.

Mim and I became friends through our parents, who lived across the hall from each other at Willow Valley. As a kind and devoted daughter, Mim would visit her parents for months and share sweet notes and stories with my Mom. After her mom, Doris (who taught me how to played Mah Jongg and will always have a very special place in my heart) and her Dad passed away, Mim stayed in touch with my mom and then thankfully, she and I began sending emails and making calls keeping up with each other. We called each other "Sis" and laughed and shared so much with each other. I miss her terribly. She was so funny and puny and thoughtful and selfless, always asking all about what was happening in my life and with "our Mom." She fought hard. I loved her and will always cherish the time we got to be "sisters!"

Mim was so smart and so willing to share what she knew. I always expected her to be destined to great things, and surely the world has lost a bright light.

She was Mim to me all through high school. She was so very smart and wicked funny! We shared so many fun times , I believe I still have notes we sent in my memory box. We didn´t staying touch after high school and I sure did miss her and always wondered how she was doing. So very sorry to hear this news.

I went to high school with Miriam - so many years ago, and yet, the memories of her vibrant and warm personality are as fresh as ever. It saddens me to hear of her passing, and her preceding battle against ovarian cancer. My condolences to Merick and her family members.

I am so sorry to hear of Miriam's passing. I hadn't had contact with her since high school, but when I think of her, I remember how vibrant she was and I can hear her laugh.

I met mirium at the needham library. She was one that was able to connect with all people. She never had a negative word to say about anyone. She was so kind and if there was a time of need she was there. Her smile lit up a room. Never ever complained about anything. She always dealt with set backs face on. She always put others before herself. I will miss her dearly. Was my best friend. She taught so much about life. My life will never be the same with you gone. You are a total angel. Rest in peace.
