MOSES SCOTT Obituary

SCOTT, Moses Edward As we celebrate the life of Moses Edward Scott with his beloved family, Melodie Toby, wife; Lyndsey and Maeghan, daughters; Richard and Matthew, sons; Laneuville Walker, sister; extended family, friends, colleagues, and community, we grieve his death to virulent leukemia on March 8, 2017. Born August 11,1943 and raised in the jim crow South, Moses first came North to further his education after Prince Edward County, Va. closed the public schools rather than desegregate. Sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee (Quaker), Moses graduated from Newton High School in the class of 1963. Moses worshiped at Myrtle Baptist Church, West Newton. He went on to earn a B.S. in Mathematics and Physics from Howard University in 1967 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1974, following his discharge with the rank of Captain from the U.S. Army where he was a computer programmer for the Military Intelligence Agency. Subsequent to his 30-year career with IBM and AT&T, Moses established Right at Home of Essex County (N.J.) in 2004, inspired by his mother Sophia Brown Scott. "Aging does not discriminate." A member of West Orange (N.J.) Chamber of Commerce and The Life Christian Church; volunteer for the Essex County Friend Advocate Program; sponsor of Mountain Top (West Orange's youth sports organization) and Police Athletic Leagues, we love Moses, a devoted family man, a stalwart friend, dedicated to easing the lives of the elderly and people with disabilities. The Penzer family (formerly of Newton, MA) remembers always the timbre of Moses' gracious voice, soothing humor, and so much more. Services were held. Donations in Moses' memory may be made to The Mountain Top League, 12 Old Indian Road, West Orange, NJ 07052.

A good guy! I served with him in the Army at NSA!! We lived next to ea other in the BOQs and ate at the Officers club most nights! He borrowed a math book from me and was really upset when it was stolen from his car. His GF at the time was a stewardess! As I said, a good guy!!!

Fortunately, we don't need an electronic nudge to be reminded of Moses. As life continues, he is present. We welcome little Micah, his first grandson, in whom, no doubt, he takes mighty delight. Love to the Scott-Toby clan.

I just learned today of the loss of Moses. I loved seeing him and his wonderful smile, reminiscing about our shared connection to Farmville/Prospect. My deepest condolences to Melodie and the family. As a friend says at this difficult time, "He goes forth shining"; "What is remembered lives."

April 11, 2017

I extend my condolences to Moses' family. I knew him at Newton High School. He was involved in our Methodist youth group and went to the Easter sunrise service in 1963.
He was a wonderful person.

May God bless him and give you solace.

We are heartbroken to learn of Moses' death by mail just now. Mother is weeping, recalling how tall, handsome Moses used to ride in the car when he was a teenager next to our father, diminutive in contrast, who was driving. We shall be in touch. Our hearts reach out to you all: Melodie, Lyndsey, Meaghan, Richard, Matthew, and to Laneyville. We're poring over the family photos that you have sent us so faithfully over the years. Moses loved you all so dearly.

My sister and I will always appreciate the kindness and compassion Moses gave to our father. We convey our deepest condolences to his family. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Phyllis Sax and Miriam Davelman.
