Dear Rachel, Gary, and Laura
I don't know whether you believe me or not, Neil was on my mind the whole of yesterday, so, I was just going to text Dagmar( Derek"s mom) to ask her about the month of Neil"s passing when I saw the email. How time flies but Neil, being who he was, will never be out of our thoughts. As you might know, I only knew him for a short span, I was lucky to be with him all the time. He truly was an inspiration to me, I learnt a lot from him, young as he was and old as I was then.
Those are my lovely fond memories to be treasured. As a friend, I am so proud to have known him but as parents, you have successfully moulded an excellent human being and I am positive Laura is equally super. We all miss him but memories of him linger on. Being so far, in Malaysia, I can only send prayers and happy thoughts of time spent with Neil, stay strong stay safe,
Love to All of you and hugs to Laura"s lil ones.
Love
Prameela

Rachel and Gary,

Elizabeth and I were very saddened to learn about your completley unexpected loss of Neil. Although we have lived for about 15 years with Erik-Lars' illness, I have long considered that we are much more fortunate than those parents who received that unexpected call. It is hard to imagine the shock and grief, but I hope you can cherish the great moments. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Rachel and Gary,

We are thinking of you so much today as our son, Matt, and Neil's other close friends from Oberlin are attending his memorial service. Matt has told us so much about Neil, about what an amazing person he was and how much he was loved by his friends. Our hearts are with you at this time of unbearable loss. We send you our love and prayers.

I am the mother of a friend of Neil's, Jen Dohne. I am so very sorry for your loss. Jen has been so devastated by the loss of her compassionate, warm and brilliant friend. I just want you to know that Jen cared very deeply for Neil because of who he was. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Rachel and Gary:

We have been thinking about you and wish to send you our deepest condolences in the lost of Neil.

We heard from Chris and Daniela whose daughter Yara was a close friend of Neil how much he was loved and admired by his friends. May your memories of Neil continue to bring you comfort.

We share one, in your kitchen in Madison WI: Gary cutting peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in geometric shapes for Laura and Neil. Our daughter Joey was 3 years old at the time and Neil was a couple of years older. Rachel asked him if he wanted to share with Joey his Lego and he brought it to her. At the time he was into playing with small figures that Gary referred to as small people, and Joey copied the term and figures of her Playmobile toys became little people as well.

Love,
Juliana and Ariel

Neil was a brilliant talent. One of the smartest and funniest people I have ever met. He was a true renaissance man who excelled in any endeavor he set out on. I feel very fortunate to have known him and call him a friend. May you take comfort in knowing you are not alone in your grief as everyone who knew Neil mourns this inexplicable loss.
