Nelson Gildersleeve Obituary

Of Concord, formerly of Framingham, died Saturday, June 19th at the age of 85. Nelson was born on June 1, 1919, to George and Mary (Nelson) Gildersleeve. He graduated from Scarsdale (N.Y.) High School in 1936 and earned his AB Degree from Harvard in 1940. He started his work career at General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y. and later moved to the Boston area where he worked in the personnel field, recruiting and placing executives. He served on the board of Massachusetts Ethics and Business Practices for which he won several awards for outstanding service. Nelson had a life-long love of the outdoors. He became an Eagle Scout at 15 in Scarsdale and was a member of the Mt. Washington Ski Patrol for 40 years. He enjoyed skiing, hiking, canoeing, and biking and led many groups of family and friends on memorable camping trips in New England. He was devoted to the Trinitarian Church in Wayland, where he worked with the youth group for many years. Nelson was predeceased by his beloved sister Katharine, and is survived by his former wife Marilyn, and many cousins. A Memorial Service will be held at Trinitarian Church, 53 Cochituate Road, Wayland, MA on June 23rd at 10:00a.m. Gifts in Nelson's memory may be made to Nelson Gildersleeve Memorial Fund at Trinitarian Church, 53 Cochituate Road, Wayland, MA 01778 or Friends of Tuckerman Ravine, Box 844, N. Conway, NH 03860. Arrangements under the direction of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home of WAYLAND.
