He was the son of the late Norman and Eleanor Miller. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Ritz (John) and Elizabeth (Betsy) Webb (Michael); and grandchildren, Henry Ritz and Lily Webb. Carl was the brother of Barbara Felix; brother-in-law of Sandra Baboian and Roy Hughes (deceased); and uncle of Eric Meyer (Laura), Kathy Meyer, David Baboian (Erin) and Paul Baboian (Barbara). Carl earned a Bachelor's degree of Science in Physics at Amherst College and Master's degree and PhD in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He had a career as a solid state physicist and was a member of American Physical Society, Electron Microscopy Society and the American Vacuum Society. Carl was a long-time member of Trinitarian Congregational UCC, Concord and served on Mission and Social Action Committees, Diaconate and the Antique Show and Sale Committee. Carl felt called to help alleviate food insecurity and homelessness. He walked in the Boston's Walk for Hunger for 44 years and led the Concord CROP Walk for 25 years. Carl supported Bread for the World for decades. For 11 years, he led the Advocacy to End Homeless Forum. Carl enjoyed classical music, tennis, sailing, swimming, golf and skiing. His father introduced him to hiking and Carl shared this love with his family, on vacations to Rocky Mountain National Park and Europe. Cape Cod was also a favorite destination. Carl's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his loving caregivers Heidi, Hellen, Proscovia, Sunday, Ronnie and Richard. A Memorial Service will be held at Trinitarian Congregational Church, 54 Walden Street, Concord, MA, on Saturday, October 18, at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord.
