PASQUALE FRANCHI Obituary

FRANCHI, Pasquale Real Estate Developer Longtime resident of Weston, MA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 23, 2022, days shy of his 94th birthday. Pasquale (Pat) was born on January 31, 1928, in Gallinaro, Atina, Italy to Luigi and Giovanna (Tullio) Franchi. He was the brother of Anthony Franchi of Weston and was predeceased by brothers Antonio (Jerry), Dominic, and sister Mary Franchi, all of Newton. Pat immigrated to the United States at age 12. After attending trade school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon his discharge from the military, he took his $300 severance pay and purchased a car, a shovel and pick, and a wheelbarrow in order to begin a career as a mason. In time, that small business evolved into an international contracting and real estate development company. At its height, Franchi Management had over 650 employees and was involved with notable projects such as Boston's Somerset Hotel, the Cape Canaveral Launch Complex #14, American University, Beirut, University of Tunis, and UMass Dartmouth (formerly SMU). Pat was one of the first developers of condominiums in the City of Boston and his extensive real estate portfolio included apartment complexes in Boston, Newton, Natick, Nahant, Melrose, MA, and Fort Myers, FL. He was one of the first Boston developers to see the value in old buildings, and he began renovating and restoring them instead of building new. Pat's passions for skiing and tennis led him to purchase Wildcat Mountain and build the Waltham Athletic Club, where, until recently, he was an active member. Beyond all of his business success, Pat's greatest source of pride was the family he created with his wife, Madeline. They raised six children together before Madeline's untimely passing from ovarian cancer. Pat also lost three daughters to cancer, prompting him to become a dedicated supporter of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. For 25 years, he hosted Yahoo Weekend at Wildcat Mountain for Dana Farber pediatric patients and their families. The event gave them a chance to forget about treatment for a few days and enjoy quality time together. If he wasn't on a job site, Pat would likely be found in his garden or on the golf course or tennis court. Pat will be remembered as an avid and competitive athlete by his many friends at Charles River Country Club (Newton) and Cypress Lake Golf Club (Fort Myers, FL). Pat was also past President of Oakley Country Club (Watertown, MA). Pat was predeceased by the love of his life, Madeline (Corsi); daughters Susanne, Debra, and Patricia; and son-in-law Jack Kacewicz. He is survived by his daughter Linda Kacewicz of Warwick Neck, RI, sons Louis (Deirdre) of Newton, and Michael of Natick. Loving grandfather of Jennifer Carney, Michael Kacewicz, Laura Jackson, and Kristin Clarke; Madeline Lynch; Franca Calaciura, Austin, Sophia, and Martha Franchi. Adoring great-grandfather to Mackenzie, Garrett, Rowan, Jackson, Wesley, Wynn, Margot, and Virginia. He also leaves behind his longtime companion Fran Towle; and his beloved dog, Spike. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Home for Little Wanderers, https://thehome.org Visiting Hours: Family and friends are welcome to gather and celebrate Pat's life and remember the love and friendship he shared with others at a Funeral Mass in Saint Julia's Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston, on Monday morning January 31st at 10:30 am.
