PAUL BEAN Obituary

BEAN, Paul M. Of South Yarmouth, MA, formerly of Melrose, MA and Carrabassett Valley, ME, at age 84 on August 21, 2018. For 58 wonderful years, he was the husband of Anne Carroll Bean. A life-long educator, after graduating from Springfield College in 1956, Paul coached and taught physical education at Melrose High School (from which he graduated in 1952) for 30 years and was inducted into the Melrose Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998. He spent summers working on Cape Cod and moved permanently to South Yarmouth in 1995. With his smooth, classic style, Paul was a familiar sight at Sugarloaf in Maine, where he skied from 1958 until just before his 82nd birthday in 2016. A great golfer as well and a frequent sailor on Lewis Bay in West Yarmouth, he loved being outdoors and active. Paul is survived by his wife and by his two daughters, Heidi Bean and her husband Ross Little, of South Portland, ME and Gretchen Bergill and her husband Stefan Bergill, of Kents Hill, ME. He was the admiring and involved Grandpapa of Nik, Phoebe, and Ingrid. He also leaves his sister Alice Cole and her husband Alton Cole, as well as sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dot and Joe Mirisola. Although services will be private, the family is being supported by Dennett, Craig and Pate Funeral Home of Saco, ME. More information is available at their website www.dcpate.com. So sorry for your loss.
Paul was an inspirational man who guided many youth as myself toward Springfield College. I followed his path into education as a coach and educator for many years in Wilmington Ma. There is a special place in my heart for he has touched my life in most positive ways. May he rest in the arms of God.

Thank you for being such an incredible grandfather, even when I had long hippie hair! Thank you for baseball practice, dribble castles, and a guaranteed ice cream for every lunch and dinner on Cape Cod. Love you and miss you lots, Grandpapa
