Richard MADES Obituary

MADES, Richard "Rick" April 8, 1961 – September 24, 2025

Age 64, of Boynton Beach, Florida, passed away on September 24,

2025, following complications from heart surgery.

Raised in Belmont, MA, Rick lived in Delray and Boynton Beach, Florida for the past 38 years, where he was known for his warmth, humor, and formidable skills on the pickleball and tennis courts.

A graduate of Tufts University, where he attended as an undergrad and obtained his masters in math education, he later took his love of summer camps and in 1994, he founded Camp Finders, a camp referral service. The work reflected Rick's belief that every child deserves a safe, nurturing place to grow.

In 2004, Rick founded Maine Arts Camp. Built on acceptance, creativity, and non-competition, the camp quickly became a haven for children seeking a summer experience beyond traditional sports.

Rick's talents extended beyond camp leadership. Later in life, he became a certified mediator, founding Let's Get This Resolved.

Rick is survived by his mother, Marilyn Mades; and his two sisters, Mara Mades and Rebecca Dana; and his fiancée, Tina Scagliarini. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Mades; and his brother, Dan Mades.

Memorial details: A Service will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025, beginning at 1 p.m., at Hunter's Run in Boynton Beach, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Feeding America, the American Heart Association, or a charity of one's choice.

Rick was such a terrific person, always smiling and fun to be with. He came to most of our tennis team matches & games, and although he was told he couldn't watch Tina play because it made her nervous, he always hid, watched and applauded every good shot she made. R.I.P. Rick

I got to know Rick and Tina on the pickleball courts at Hunters Run. They were a dynamic duo on and off the court. We all shared a passion for the game. I will remember Ricks´s generosity of spirit and easy friendly smile. He will be widely missed by all who knew him and played with him. Deepest condolences to Rick´s loved ones and friends.

Rick was one of a kind, a great friend to his friends, a tremendous mentor, and someone who had a remarkable ability to turn a vision into reality. I've known Rick over 25 years, and can honestly say he didn't have a mean bone in his body. He was funny and fun, kind, generous, and most of all, cared deeply about others, regardless of what they could or couldn't do for him.
We'll miss you Rick.

Rick stood for kindness and compassion, qualities he brought to his work; we connected in the camp industry many years ago, shared wisdom and laughter each and every time we met. Grateful to have shared those times with this extraordinary colleague and friend. Monique
