Paul FITZGERALD Obituary

FITZGERALD, Paul B. Of Westwood, MA, died January 17, 2023, at Newton Wellesley Hospital after a brief illness. Beloved husband of Mary Clare (Keenan) Fitzgerald for 52 years. Loving father of Paul K. and his wife, Alison of South Burlington, VT, and James M. and his wife, Bonnie of Franklin, MA. Loving grandpa to Luke, Matthew, Rory, Keira, and Cailin.

He was predeceased in death by his parents, David and Catherine Fitzgerald; and his brothers, David and John. He is survived by two sisters, Joan Foy of Little Elm, TX, and Jane Dooley and her husband, John of Milton, MA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Paul grew up in Newton Centre and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1959, where he excelled in basketball. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Boston University before following his two brothers and a sister into the U.S. Navy.

He worked 24 years for Honeywell in the Field Engineering Division and then spent his last working years as a Grants Manager for the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission.

Paul was an excellent listener with a great sense of comedic timing. He cared for his family in many ways, including his "Sunday dinners" and Thanksgiving meals where his gravy and stuffing were always a hit.

He was loved by his many dogs, especially Deal, Seamus, Mac, and Max.

He enjoyed his cars especially the Corvette and his Honda Valkyrie. He spent many hours coaching and cheering for his boys in baseball, football, track, and swimming from their early years through High School and college.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., WESTWOOD, on Friday, January 27, from 9am – 10:30am. Following the Visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St., Westwood, at 11am. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul's memory to the Animal Rescue League of Boston at www.arlboston.org Paul was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War Era.

Paul was the youngest of five, full of life, and a happy child. He had exceptional technical ability that he passed onto his boys. He was always willing to lend a hand when needed! He leaves a wonderful legacy to his talented and capable wife and 2 Hall of Famer sons. A rich life well lived! J Dooley
