I am so very sorry over Scott's loss. He always had a smile and a good word to say about somebody.

I remember when I first met him in Oneonta NY and he came up to me and expressed an interest in learning how to become an umpire. We started a friendship that lasted 26 years.

Scott loved his family more than anything and it was an honor to have him as a friend.

Eileen and I are sorry we could not make up there, but we would like to see you.

Sheila, Danny, and the McDougall Family:
We are so sorry for you loss. Scotty was truly one of those people that you can't help but smile of when you think of him. It was an privilege to know him, and an honor to be his friend.
It was evident by his services how many people shared that honor of being a friend of Scotty's. He touched the lives of many in such a positive way, and will contiue to do so.
May the difficult times the future may hold be made easier by the fond memories you all have of Scotty that you hold so close.

Sheila: I was shocked when I learned of Scotty's passing. From our 1st meeting back in 1982 when we drove down to Sarasota for our rookie year in the Gulf Coast League, I knew he was something special. The laugh, the ability to agitate without making it personal, and knowing that he had your back on the field were all special about him. I happened to run into him at a Bruins game at the Garden a couple of years ago and am thankful for that opportunity to catch up with him then. I presently live in Salt Lake City and regret that I could not be there in person to honor him. Please accept my condolences on his passing.

Words alone can't express how much you'll be missed. You've touched a lot of lives in such a positive way. A quote that I have heard tells it so well, "It's not what you take with you but what you leave behind" says it all. To Danny, he was so proud of you not only as an athlete but as a person. He'll be watching over you for the rest of your life and I'm sure you'll keep making him proud. We will all miss him but now instead of praying for him we can pray to him.

Jack & Eileen Hachey

October 19, 2007

Sheila,

I (we) can attest first hand, as can anyone who has been even remotely close to seeing you and Scotty spend these many years together, that your marriage was an example of how we all would like our relationships to be. Scotty was a loyal, hardworking, dedicated, and loving husband -- and an equally warm, supportive, and lovable/loving brother-in-law to all of us. He LOVED YOU like no husband could. My words here can only come up short.

Danny,

Your dad is lost to you -- and that'll never be easy to accept, and should you find that you are unable to come to terms with this tragedy -- everyone would understand why -- given how wonderful a man he truly was. He was (and is!) very, very proud of you -- and never once did he utter a word, or act in any manner that would offer otherwise. Losing a father at such a young age is surely difficult -- and, frankly, many days ahead will be hard. I hope you will be comforted by the fact that your DAD is at peace -- and that if Scotty has any "say in it" you'll be the most guarded SON on this precious planet.

Stand by your mom -- and we will all promise to stand by the both of you.

Love,

Jack & Eileen

Sheila, Danny and the McDougall family - I had the pleasure of being on the football field with Scotty this past Saturday night in Lynn. I was fortunate to have been able to be with Scotty three or four times per season over the years and it was always fun as he was cheerful and easy going every time we got together. Among the benefits of officiating are the wonderful people that you get to meet and the lasting bonds of friendship that are cultivated in the locker room or at our meetings. I am proud to have been able to call myself a brother official of Scotty's and he will be with me as well as all the officials that knew him as we continue to serve the sports we love. Danny, your dad is immensely proud of you. I'm sure you'll make a mark on this earth as your dad did with all of us. Peace be with you.

Dear Dan and Mrs. McDougall
We are so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. Dan, my father passed away only 6 months ago and every day I feel the vacant spot in my life. It has helped me to remember the fun times we as a family shared, but it takes a long time to ease the pain. Dan, please know that he would want you to be happy, to continue to work hard, and to have a successful life. He will be watching, you can count on that.

To Sheila, Danny and to both wonderful families. I want to say how sorry I am for the loss of a giant smiling human being that Scotty was. I want you to know if we had more human beings like Scotty and the way he lived his life this world would be a better place. I knew Scotty growing up with Big Al. Scotty was a great husband, father, brother, leader, and friend to all. He was a person who touched so many peoples lives. I told Al and Mrs. McDougall that God needed a real good referee and an umpire in heaven because he was sorely missing one. I know he will be a wonderful guardian angel that will watch over Sheila, Danny and all his family and friends. Thanks Scotty for making everyone feel a little more important each day for all the people you touched day in and day out. God bless you and until we meet again. Also, thanks for all the wonderful memories and keeping us in check at Barry Park! My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love Sean Regan and Love from Lori, Michael and Jack.
