It is so awful that he did not get to see his son graduate middle school this past June. I am sure that he is proud of him, wherever he is. I think that it was awful that his son didn't get to know him well. It is also awful that a number of the students who graduated from AHS after he died never got to know him. I think that it is also awful that the current and future AHS students will never get to know him

While browsing the internet tonight, I have learned the devastating news that Peter died some years ago. It is so hard to come to terms with the fact that the person who I last saw on one of my visits to his parents in Andover, when he was still at university, is no longer with us.
My thoughts go out to his wife and son, and to my old friends Cia and Michael, and their lovely daughter, Vicky, and to Cia and Michael's families in England and Sweden.
Thinking of you all.
And Cia, it would be wonderful to hear from you.
Much love

I was lucky enough to have Mr. Arthur for world civilizations my freshmen year. He was my all time favorite teacher and I was looking forward to taking AP euro with him my senior year. When I found out that he died me and my sister Erin were in total shock and disbelief. I couldn't accept it and it still hasn't really hit me even now. Every day walking into school he would always greet me with a smile and I sometimes find myself still expecting him to be there. His death left a huge hole that can never be filled in the school and in everyone's lives. My deepest sympathy goes out to the Arthur family and friends. Mr. Athur you are truely missed.

Although I had Mr. Arthur for only one semester, I feel blessed to have known him for the brief semester that I did. Our AP Euro class was work-intensive but rewarding, and one that I consistently looked forward to. He encouraged us to think by questioning our views. Outside of class, he was friendly, approachable, and never without a bit of good advice. He once told me that I needed to become a "complete student," and that exams and essays were only a part of the equation -that, I think, was his most lasting lesson to me while he was still alive. In death, however, he taught me that the worth of a person was measured in lives touched. His passing is a tragedy for not only the many who knew him, but also for many more who never will have the opportunity to. My sincere condolences to his family.

Coach Arthur was such an important role model for our three children. Our oldest played baseball for him and looked upon his Coach as a true mentor. Our youngest two truly loved their camp time - the drills, contests, quizzes and gum!
We can't imagine a world without him. Although we mostly knew him for the baseball role in his life, it has been truly a gift to learn how fully he cherished life and gave back to his family, friends, students and community.
We will all be better for knowing him and we will all aspire to better the world around us as he did. His father's and sister's poem was amazing and serves to remind us all to "find your path, give back, and make good choices." We will never forget him. We will remind our children to continue to follow his example.
Our deepest sympathies go out to his entire family. Please know how much you are in our thoughts and prayers.

The world has lost a very special person who touch so many lives. I was fortunate enough to have Peter as a teacher, coach, teammate, training partner and most importantly a friend. Even though we lost contact with each other, he was still in my thoughts. I regret that I never said good-bye and tell him how much he has touched my life. I can still here him pushing me to do my best in his special way.
Best wishes to his family,

When i first heard the news of Mr. Arthur's death, I didnt believe it. How could a man so young and so healthy just go? I was fortunate enough to have Mr. Arthur my freshman year for world civilizations. Despite the fact that i despise history, he managed to suck me into this class and in the end, i enjoyed it very much. he made all the lessons fun by singing songs and even dressed up as the pope one day. Mr Arthur - you taught me so much and I will never forget you. Thank you
My sympathy goes out to Mr. Arthur's family and especially his wife and Jeffrey.

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.....Peter Arthur came into ours for a lifetime. He will always hold a special place in our hearts. Peter was Greg's baseball coach in his first year at Westford Academy. Greg played for Peter in his first year as a coach at Westford Academy. Our youngest son, Zach, has been part of the baseball program since Peter took the helm. In three short years, he turned WA's program around by not only having a dedicated,hard-working staff of coaches, but also by establishing a camp program that worked on developing the skills of young players. He told his first year team "you guys are going all the way...I see something in you" How true that was!!! Our two boys will miss his guidance, his passion for baseball as well as his integrity. Our prayers are with his wife Jen and their young son Geoff.

I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Arthur during my freshman soccer season. He would ride the bus with us to all the games, and he quickly learned how much our team loved to sing on the bus rides. He was sitting near my friends and I on one of the rides home and he asked if any of us were going to have him during the next semester. I told him that I was and he looked at me and said that if I sang like that in class, that he and I would get along great. In February of last year I finally learned what he meant. Mr. Arthur always knew how to make even the most boring topics in World Civ seem so fun and interesting. Through his different songs and games he made that class the best class that I have ever had.
As our semester went on, Mr. Arthur and I became good friends. He became someone that I could go to whenever I needed to talk about anything. He always was there for me no matter what. When school ended in June he told me that I was going to be "a future AP Euro star", and I knew that he and I would always maintain our good friendship. I would have to wait until my junior year to have him again, but he and I still talked every day during this year. He was always giving me advice on what to do in school and in sports. Whenever I had a basketball game this year he was always there and he was the only one that I would hear when I was playing. Mr. Arthur would help me with anything and wanted the absolute best for me in anything I did.
My greatest sympathy goes out to his family during this hard time. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Jeffrey, I hope through everything that you will read and see of your dad, you will be able to learn what an amazing person he really was and how much you meant to him.
Rest in peace, you'll never be forgotten.

I feel so lucky and blessed to have had Mr. Arthur as my world civ teacher last year second semester. Every single day I looked forward to going to his class because I knew he had something fun and exciting planned. Mr. Arthur was an amazing teacher and person. His class wasn't all fun and games, we actually learned things also. He really cared about history and he had a passion for teaching. I remember him singing to us and dressing up as different people from history and always making us laugh. I remember when he set up a fund for the daughter of a teacher that passed away last year. He really truly cared about everyone. Everyday he would be selling candy to help raise money and reminding us to give back. He touched so many people's lives all around the world and he really made a difference in my life. I will always remember you. Thank you Mr. Arthur for everything, we love and miss you more than ever. My thoughts and sympathy go out to his family.

Mr. Arthur was my World Civ teacher 1st semester. This week has been such a shock to me as Mr. Arthur was my favorite teacher. All of the memories and "good times" shared in his class will never be forgotten. Mr. Arthur's passion for history and the community were amazing. He would give us extra credit for supporting our classmates. He also made it very clear to me and many of my other classmates that if we ever needed anything, we could come to him. I am so sad to know that I will never have to opportunity to have him as my AP Euro teacher. MY thoughts and prayers are with his family especially Jeffrey. Mr. Arthur was constantly telling us of his love for Jeffrey and it is so unfortunate that Jeffrey will not remember the times shared with his extraordinary father.

There have been many times when I have been asked who the most influential person in my academic life has been. Without hesitation I think back to one teacher who took me under his wingt and set me off into a life of success.
A techer has you for such a short time in your life, but, if he makes the most of that time, he motivates you and guides you they become indellably etched into a young persons mind...for life.
There is no doubt in my mind that Mr Arthur was that kind of teacher in my son Jeremy's life. Entering High School is a bewildering and awesome event in a childs life. To have Mr Arthur touch my son's life for that critical first taste of high schol was a gift that I am glad he was able to experience. I know my son will, just like me, look back with fond memories and realize it was Mr Arthur who was there for him, taller then life and a real presence. Peter Arthur will always be remembered in our family.

We are slowly trying to understand what has happened to our beloved cousin and nephew Peter. All his relatives in Sweden (9 cousins and 4 aunts) are very proud to read about what he meant to so many people. A very special part of our childhood is gone now. Mr. Arthur was my world civ theacher last year when I was a freshman. Believe it or not, as hard as he graded, his class was still the class that I looked forward to in the day. He had a way of not being boring, and always being enthusiastic about everything he did. He taught us not only the curriculum, but he also taught us about the world. By the end of his class all students could draw the world using his set of creative symbols, name over 150 countries and bodies of water, and also knew all of the curriculum. He taught us to always be opend minded about other cultures. I remember we would have Headlines, where 3 students each day would get an article from the news and present it to the class. If we mentioned something about this culture that was "weird", Mr. Arthur would correct us, and teach us that the unknown is not weird, it is different. Mr. Arthur was the teacher that you could count on, whether it was helping those in need, or just for a friend. I will truly miss Mr. Arthur, and my deepest thoughts and feelings of sympathy go to the Arthur family. He will always be remember in our hearts.

I am a freshman at andover highschool, and Mr Arthur was my world civ teacher last semester. It was clear to me -even from the very first day- that he held a passion for history. Not only did he have the love for history, but he had a love for teaching.
On the very first day of school, i noticed that there was something different in his classroom. He left his door open, welcoming anyone wanting to come in and chat. Whether it was a former student, or a fellow teacher, there was always time for a discussion in his class, or just to come in and say hi..
Not only did he make us better students in the world of history, he made us better people. He taught us how to "Give Back" to the community in any way we could.
I remember everyday in mr. arthur's class, we always laughed at least once. It could be at anything. From one of his "original" songs, to a funny skit.
Mr. Arthur had a love for history, a love for teaching, and a love for his family. He was always saying how much he loved his son Jeffrey, and how he was "the cutest thing ever."
I am so sorry to know that Jeffrey will never be able to know what his father was like, and how much he loved him.
I will truly miss Mr. Arthur, and my deepest thoughts and feelings of sympathy go to the Arthur family. He will be missed.

I only knew Peter from the parents Open House this past fall, but he impressed me greatly as being someone special. During the semester, when I spoke to my son about school, it was clear my first impression was correct.
This was the class in which I could get my son engaged in a full discussion of class activities, from their fundraising efforts to questions about other countries. It is clear Peter was teaching his students even more important things than class content.
He will be greatly missed. Your family has our deepest sympathies and prayers. One is not gone until one is forgotten. Long live Peter’s memory and lessons.

I never knew Peter Arthur personally, but I did see him all the time at my lunch at Andover High School. I had seen him everyday. I had heard many stories of him, not only from the people that spoke at the Funeral Services but also from my many friends who had him. One of which is my best friend. He'd tell me the stories of his amazing teacher and how much fun class was. I heard stories from friends that were players on the freshmen soccer team. He was very influencial to all 2000 or more people who walk in and out of Andover High School. I know that so many people would have wanted to know him. And though I didn't know him that well, Everyone at school seems a little more empty inside without him.

Dear Arthur Family,
When I saw the headline in the sports section of The Boston Herald Monday, I had to do a double-take. I read, and re-read, the article in a state of shock. How someone so young, who had already given so much to his students, and no doubt his family and friends over the years, and yet still had more to give, could be taken from us so soon, is just unfair.
I was fortunate enough to be a student of his for the year he taught at Wilmington High School, and I learned so much from Mr. Arthur that I'm just not sure where to begin. He was the rare sort of teacher who could transcend the teacher-student relationship to one of a friendship, while still maintaining the authority and respect that all teachers need to have in the classroom. A difficult and delicate balance to uphold, but Mr. Arthur made it seem so easy. I know just how difficult this balance is as I am beginning my career as a teacher.
My senior year, the year I was a student of Mr. Arthur's, was a rather difficult one for me on a personal level. I had major surgery in December, and found that I spent more time out of school that year than actually in it. After two months out of school, I was allowed to return to school on a part-time basis. I would be in school for two classes a day, and it was no coincidence that one of those classes I was present for was Mr Arthur's. I could have had a discouraging morning at physical therapy, yet I could count on Mr. Arthur to crack a joke to get me to smile, or to talk about sports with me to get my mind off of things. He was the kind of person you could always count on to have your back and pick you up off the ground when you needed it the most.
Being a senior, and desperately striving for high marks to increase my chances of being accepted to colleges, I was distressed to be taking midterms when I had been out of school for two months. I did particularly bad on the midterm, and as I passed it in, Mr. Arthur asked how I thought I did. Normally an A student, I told him I failed it. There was just too much material on the exam that was from in-class discussions, and not in the textbook. He told me he doubted very much that someone as smart as I was had failed, and that it would all work out in the end.
When my report card came in the mail, I teared up in anticipation of what lay inside. I knew that with low grades this semester, the last semester of grades that colleges see, I was in danger of not being accepted to some of the more selective schools I had applied for. I was shocked to open it, and see the A beside Psychology for a grade. The next day in school, I thanked Mr. Arthur, and he inquired what I was thanking him for. I told him for the grade, and that we both knew that wasn't the real grade I had earned on the midterm. He smiled, and said maybe not, but my grades on other classwork were all A's, so it balanced out.
It was a break I remember fondly to this day. It was a simple act of kindness that he afforded me, and one I will never forget. I'll never forget his sense of humor; his genuine concern for his students; his desire - as a teacher, and in my case, as a friend - to help in any way he could. I had hoped one day to be teaching alongside him, and learning from him everyday as if I were a student in his classroom once again. The lessons I learned from Mr. Arthur will always be with me, and I only hope I can be half the teacher in and out of the classroom as he was.
My most gracious thoughts and deepest sympathies to his wife, son, parents, and friends. Jeffrey, I am sorry that your time spent with your father was wrongly cut so short. I hope one day that he comes alive to you in these messages, and you can begin to understand how many lives your father touched, and how many of us, myself included, are such better persons for knowing your Dad. He truly was the most rare breed of teachers that installs a sense of learning and knowledge in someone that can never be forgotten. He will be greatly missed by everyone.

Mr. Arthur was one of the most amazing teachers I’ve ever had. He truly brought out the best in me, both as a student and member of the Andover High community. I had the pleasure of having him for World Civ during my freshman year, exactly five years ago. Even now, as a sophomore in college, that remains one of my favorite and most memorable classes. He was always a tremendous source of support and strength. Mr. Arthur also fostered my love of history, which I decided to major in at college. He always encouraged his students to do their best and reach their full potential. I am extremely grateful that I had the good fortune of knowing him. He was an amazing mentor and I’m glad that he had such a great impact on my life. I send my deepest sympathies to his entire family.

Being lucky enough to have had Mr. Arthur for World Civ. in my freshman year in high school, I was able to see his love and enthusiasim for teaching students not only about his passion, but also about how to be better and more productive people in this world. He was without a doubt the most dedicated social studies teacher I have ever had, telling tales about what he saw on the History Channel and frequently singing outloud to bring the class alive and help us understand the material better. Outside of academics, it was obvious that he cared about other people. Mr. Arthur persistently reminded us to donate money or volunteer for good causes, and to get involved in after-school sports and clubs. He has undoubtedly had an affect on everyone of us in our class. I highly regret not being able to take more classes or having the chance to get to know him. Condolences go to his family, wife, and Jeffrey, who had a great father.

Last semester, i had the opportunity to have Mr. Arthur as my World Civ teacher. I only had the chance to have him once, but i would have loved to have him again. The first day of school i noticed how many students (and teachers) came in just to say hi and talk to him. I would always think "maybe i will be that close to him one day" and now i never will be. History was never my favorite subject, but Mr. Arthur made the class very entertaining with songs, costumes, movies, everything. He made it obvious how much he loved history and teaching it to others. He also taught us how to give back to the community, which is one thing i will never forget. Mr. Arthur was always talking about his son, Jeffrey, and it was clear how much he loved him. I am so sorry that Jeffrey will never be able to get to know his father more, and Mr. Arthur will be deeply missed by everyone.

Our family is one of the fortunate many to have been touched by such a dedicated man in his work at Andover High School. Our son, Peter, was in Mr.Arthur's World Civilization class as a freshman, and was also encouraged by Mr Arthur to pursue track. Anyone who has had Mr. Arthur as a teacher knows as well as I do, his engaging and energetic teaching style which made each day an adventure filled with learning and challenges. For the twelve years that I spent in the Andover Public School system, I have never met a person with a greater passion for teaching than Mr. Arthur. Whether he was teaching us how to draw a perfect outline of the world, or dressing up and using song to help us learn important moments of history, every minute spent in his classroom was incredibly worthwhile. Even at the college level, from time to time, I often find myself using studying techniques that I mastered in his class. His approachable teaching methods made it easy to ask questions and expand our horizons. I, along with hundreds of other students, will never forget this man. He taught us the world, and will forever be in our thoughts and in our hearts.

I had Mr. Arthur last year as a freshman for world civ. To me, he was more then a teacher. He was a mentor as well as a friend, someone who i looked up to. I will never forget when he used to dress up as different people in history and make up and sing his own songs in front of the class with instrumental music he picked out to familiar songs everyone knew. He had a wonderful sense of humor. I will also never forget how he inisted on still having class during fire drills. While everyone went and socialized, our class sat in the middle of the field with our notebooks reading. Little memories like those will always stay with me. He changed the way i look at the world.
RIP mr arthur
my deepest sympathy to his family.
Love always,
Deana

Mr. Arthur was the best teacher I've ever had. Not only did he want us to learn, but he helped us want to learn. He made history interesting, in more than one way. From his singing to the surprise song of him singing when he was young (and with a british accent) he will never be forgotten by any of us. I hope he still had the Famous Explorers song i made for him going to the Pina Coolada tune. Miss you Mr. Arthur

I attended my first parent's night at AHS 3 years ago. The first class I visited was Mr. Arthur's Freshman Social Studies class. I was so impressed! I wanted to be a student in his class!
My condolences to his family, friends and students.

A true loss to many communities. Peter coached my middle school son during summer baseball clinics at Westford Academy. The kids respected him, learned a lot about baseball and had a great time. I knew right away that Peter had a deep interest in teaching kids and bringing out the best in them. My son enjoyed camp so much the first week that he wanted to go back the 2nd week. We did not have transportation home for him but Peter stepped right in and offered to personally take him home after camp each day or find a ride for him. He was truly committed to these kids and will be missed by many.

My thoughts and prayers are with Jen and Jeffrey, Pete's family, as well as all who knew and loved him. I am very saddened by his early passing, knowing his time here was not enough. He will never be forgotten. Seeing how many people whose lives were positively impacted by Pete is something to be proud of, something Jeffrey will admire about his father, and Jen about her husband.

Mr. Arthur was a great teacher. He taught everything he could. We all loved him so much. The candle light ceremony they had was so beautiful from what i hear(i was sick so i could not attend). We will all miss him so much and AHS will never be the same. We have signs all over the place such as " Give P.A. back" and "You taught us the world." Mr. Arthur will live on through the students at AHS. His help for us and other things in and out of the school was extraordinary. We love you Mr. Arthur R.I.P.

Coach Peter Arthur brought integrity and excellence to our Westford Academy Baseball program. He demanded that the boys work hard on the field and in the classroom. Thank you, Peter, for being so wonderful to our son and for setting such a great example.
Jen and Geoffrey, you and your family have our deepest sympathy. We will never forget him, he will always be in our hearts.

I was saddened, and shocked, to hear the news of Peter's sudden death. I had the opportunity to play 1 season of baseball with Peter and had tremendous respect for the way he played the game, the way he carried himself, and for his competitiveness. I enjoyed every moment catching for Peter. More importantly, I respected his attitude and priorities, having discussed family on several occasions.
My prayers are with the entire Arthur family during this unimaginably hard time. God Bless you all.

Peter was a great guy. He was one of the smarter guys around and just loved baseball. I was a classmate of Pete's at West Jr High and AHS, really got to know him working with the West BB team. We always used to argue who was better, Darryl Strawberry or Barry Bonds. As usual, Peter was right. When I was working back home 2001 and 2002, I came by to see him. He was the same Pete. Just a classy guy and one of the guys that made me proud how he turned out. He just loved being a teacher and working with kids. The world is a lot worse of today without Pete. My thoughts and prayers go out to his parents, His wife Jennifer and his son, Jeffrey. Your dad was a great man, Jeffrey. I am going to miss him.

I knew Mr. Arthur only from a distance, as one who had given support to my daughter when she most needed it, and as one whose passion for history inspired her and her classmates. Looking across the grass last night at the community of students and teachers side-by-side, the messages of thanks so quickly raised in AHS paper-cup talk, the candlelight and the love — shared so much more. My prayers are with all of you in your loss, in our loss, of this very special person who surely felt your love last night.

It is with great sadness we send our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Arthur. He taught both of my daughters, Lisa and more recently, Deana. They both could not say enough about his teaching style and how much they learned from him. The sense of loss around AHS is overwhelming and heartfelt. Our love, prayers and great sympathy are with his family.

My deepest sympathies go out to Mr Arthur’s family and friends. My son had the "privilege" to train under his watchful eye in the Westford Baseball program. He took great care in not only developing the athlete but also the student and person. He will be truly missed as a coach and a teacher in Andover and Westford alike.

Peter was a very committed, dedicated person of outstanding character…..committed to selflessly doing the right thing in the context of teaching textbook knowledge, values, self esteem and the importance of exploring and following your dreams.
He always seemed to find ways to be helpful in the development of our kids at Andover High. First, Peter was a very capable teacher of several subjects, always looking for ways to make the learning experience fun. We heard lots about his antics in the classroom but it was always evident that his goal was to find a fun way for the kids to learn the subject matter. But equally, if not more importantly to us as parents, he also found many ways to weave into the classroom and his involvement in Andover High sports, many other life lessons; things like having high expectations and maintaining high values for yourself, while at the same time, also being accountable for making your own "good choices" and decisions. He taught those precepts in the most effective way too... by example. It just came naturally to him.
Peter always found a way to make our kids, and I’m sure others, feel important while instilling great values, a task that certainly can be challenging for parents of teenagers. He reached out to our family as our son's teacher and soccer coach in a way that left us with a sense of admiration for his thoughtfulness. Knowing people like Peter should give us all comfort to know that genuinely nice people do exist out there in our community.
He played a similar role in giving more of his precious time to support projects that built community spirit and academic excellence at Andover High. His presence at the National Honor Society induction ceremony where he was selected by multiple inductees as "the teacher that most positively impacted them" was yet another testimony to both his commitment to teaching in the largest sense of the word and the deserved respect he earned from his students.
He will be missed by many, but always remembered as a wonderful role model for his students, peers, and we his extended family. We're thankful for the family that raised him and his wife Jennifer and son Jeffrey who supported such a great guy and allowed him to share so much of his time with the rest of us.

The students, families, and teachers of Andover were quite fortunate to have Peter Arthur on the faculty at Andover High School. His friendly temperament and deep concern for our youth, consistently expressed in the classroom, on fields, and in town was so appreciated and will be sorely missed.

Mr Arthur was more than a teacher to many students. He was a friend, and mentor also. His work in the Andover High School community will never be forgotten. I consider myself lucky to have been a student of his. He helped teach me the world, both in a historical and personal sense. In the words of a great past philosopher, Thucydides: "For where the rewards of virtue are greatest, there the noblest citizens are enlisted in the service of the state." We will dream for you Peter. May you rest in peace.

It hardly seems possible that a man as young and vibrant as Coach Arthur could have been so cruelly and prematurely snatched from our lives. That his death so deeply and personally affects hundreds and hundreds of students is a testament to his faith in and dedication to the youth of this community. The Andover High School and our town will be hard pressed to replace this wonderful, energetic, and committed teacher, coach and mentor. It will be especially hard for his young family and my heart goes out to his wife, Jennifer and his son, Jeff. My hope is that they will receive some small comfort in knowing that, during his much too short life here on earth, Peter made a difference in the world. In additon to contributing to the Jeffrey Arthur Education Fund I would encourage each and every one of us to keep Peter Arthur's memory alive by putting into practice every day those values and lessons he worked tirelessly to impart to us: always give your best effort, good sportsmanship above all and learn from your mistakes.
God Bless.
