PETER COLTON Obituary

COLTON, Peter Gerard Of Winchester, MA, suffered a stroke on the morning of September 3rd and passed away peacefully later in the day at Massachusetts General Hospital with his family by his side. He was 66 years old.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Anna Barresi Colton; daughter Jessica McCourt and husband David McCourt; daughter Genevieve Corcoran and husband Timothy Corcoran; son Peter Colton; and cherished granddaughters Margot McCourt, age 2, and Maeve Corcoran, 10 months. Born and bred in Hyde Park, Peter was one of nine siblings. He leaves behind his brothers Richard, Michael, Timothy, Robert and Douglas Colton; sisters Kathy Colton and Christine Maloney; and was predeceased by his sister Jennifer Colton. He is also lovingly remembered by his many in-laws, 29 nieces and nephews, as well as countless friends and colleagues.

Pete attended Boston Technical High School and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he served as the football team's quarterback. He met Anna Barresi while they were both working in Cape Cod one summer and together they forged a joyful union that spanned 39 years of marriage. Family was Peter's priority; he'd do anything for his and always asked after yours. Most recently he'd been enjoying spending as much time as possible with his granddaughters, who adored their indulgent "Pie." As babies, Peter held them easily in the crook of one arm, much as one cradles a football, just as he'd carried his own children.

Tall, handsome, of athletic build, and twinkling blue eyes, Pete's sense of humor belied his Boston roots. Although he was a man of few words, his quips were legendary. He'd issue them quietly, maintaining a deadpan expression as the room erupted in laughter around him. He was always a calm, but vibrant presence.

Pete loved all sports, especially golf, which was a passion. He was a proud member of Vesper Country Club in Tyngsborough, MA and The Hideout in Naples, FL. As an owner of The Four's Sports Bar in Boston for over 20 years, he orchestrated good times for sports stars and celebrities, but mostly for the everyday fans who went to the Four's to toast the city's sports teams and revel in the memorabilia on display. He did so quietly, behind the scenes, shunning fanfare. When Pete was forced to close the Four's last year, a victim of the Covid pandemic, a part of his heart broke, as it did for many. He received countless emails, phone calls, cards, and letters from customers who had made wonderful memories there, memories Pete had helped create.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Lane Funeral Home, 760 Main St., WINCHESTER on Wednesday, September 8th from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester on Thursday, September 9th at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend; masks must be worn. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. Peter was the quarterback whose name was known across New England. I never caught a pass from him but his talent left its mark on Boston Technical High School. A legend that went to the same classrooms and teachers I did. RIP
