Cynthia Phippen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Abbey Cremation Service - Rocky Hill on Mar. 13, 2026.
Remembering a Life of Faith and Service Cynthia May (Morse) Phippen, age 93, went home to be with the Lord on January 20, 2026, at Covenant Living of Cromwell, CT. Born in 1933 in Winchester, MA to Carl E and Priscilla (Laraway) Morse, Cynthia's life was marked by love, faith, and dedication to her family and community.

She graduated from Winchester High School and UMass Amherst. On March 7, 1953, Cynthia married her high school sweetheart, Charles Gilman Phippen (Bud). Together, they built a loving home and raised a family, living in Marlborough, CT for nine years, Wethersfield, CT for twenty-nine years, Alstead, NH for thirty years, and Covenant Living of Cromwell, CT for five years.

Cynthia's faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of her life, and she was deeply involved at Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church in CT, where she served as secretary for many years. She was an active volunteer, giving her time to church activities, libraries, schools, blood drives, and senior meals in the communities where she lived. The family made yearly summer trips to Cape Cod. Bud and Cynthia enjoyed a home in S. Yarmouth, MA for almost 30 years where they both loved dips in the ocean and evening croquet or cribbage games. She sewed quilts for each of her 25 grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Cathyrn Thompson and her husband Paul of Okoboji , IA and their three children, Rachel, Chad, and Stephen; Cynthia (Cindy) McNaughton and her husband Brian of Cromwell, CT and their two children, Heather and BJ; David (Chuck) Phippen and Diane (Patterson) of N. Bennington, VT serving as missionaries in Malawi, and their twelve children, Sarah, Sean, Scott, Seth, Shayla, Sharon, Stephen, Simon, Samuel, Synthia, Silas, and Savannah; Cheryl Saaman and her husband Rev. Glenn of Newport, VT and their six children, Rebekah, Daniel, Lydia, Paul, Abraham, and Bethany; Cristyn Franson and her husband Paul of Lebanon, CT and their two children, Levi and Shane. Cynthia also leaves behind thirty-seven great-grandchildren, two sisters, Marjorie Manning of Scituate, MA, and Nancy Perkins of Lynnfield, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bud, after fifty-eight years of marriage.

Cynthia's legacy of faith, kindness, and service will be cherished by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held in the spring at Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church 511 Maple Street Wethersfield, CT 06109. A private family interment will be held at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent in Cynthia's name to the Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church Missions Fund.
