DR. PETER HARRY CONTOMPASIS

1923 - 2025

Of Winchester, MA, passed away peacefully, on August 27, 2025. He was 102 years of age. Peter was born in Schenectady New York; the firstborn of four children born to the late Harry and Eugenia (Lalooses) Contompasis who passed through Ellis Island in the early 1900's. After moving to Roslindale, MA, Peter attended Boston Latin School, Harvard University and Tufts University School of Medicine. He served in the United States Army during World War II and retired as a captain from the U.S. Air Force. Peter had a very busy medical practice as a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology and still found time to be an instructor for many years to Tufts Medical students which he thoroughly enjoyed. After Peter retired, he took up painting as a hobby and gifted his artwork to many relatives and friends over the years. He also enjoyed traveling, reading and keeping up with current events and local sports. Peter was a devout Christian and faithful member of Grace Chapel in Lexington for many years and taught Sunday School and volunteered there in many other ways. He will be remembered with heartfelt love from those who were fortunate to have known him. He led a rich life and his legacy will live on. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (Getchell) Contompasis of Winchester, MA; daughter, Michele Mouradian of Arlington, MA; daughter, Lisa Sternberg and her husband, Karl of Hampden, MA; son, Stephen Contompasis of Fremont, NH; son, Jeffrey Contompasis and his wife, Kristin of Ashburn, VA; brother, Michael Contompasis and his wife, Joan of Chestnut Hill, MA. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife, Judith (Merrill) Contompasis; sisters, Jeanette Baskous and Helen Nahatis; and son-in-law, James Mouradian. Visiting Hours will be held at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., WINCHESTER, on Wednesday, September 3. from 6-8 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Chapel Lexington, on Thursday, September 4, at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
