PETER M. DEVENS

DEVENS, Peter M. Of Nahant, passed away Saturday, June 11 at the Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association, Chestnut Hill, MA. He was the son of Arthur Lithgow and Leanice (Martin) Devens. He was the cherished husband of Barbara (Tabor) and beloved father of their daughter Tyler and her husband Paul Towns. He is survived by his brother Arthur (Miff) and his wife Connie, his sister-in-law Cheryl Cavanagh and brother-in-law Bob Tabor and his wife Leslie and numerous beloved cousins and nephews. Peter was born and raised in Nahant and attended Nahant schools through Junior High going on to Tabor Academy in Marion, MA, where he was a three sport athlete: lacrosse, squash and co-captain football. He attended Suffolk University until drafted, at which time he chose to enlist in the United States Marine Corps and served in Viet Nam. Peter loved the sea and from boyhood did all he could to be on it having his own dory and lobster traps. He ran an offshore lobster vessel for many years when returning from Viet Nam and was Vice President of Boston Wholesale Lobster Corp., for over twenty years. Peter was an avid runner and racquet sports enthusiast. He was a member of the Union Boat Club in Boston, MA, where he enjoyed playing Rugby 5's., The Newport Reading Room in Rhode Island, The Nahant Country Club, and The Cary Street Club in Nahant and where he served on various boards. A private burial for immediate family will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant. Barbara and Tyler extend an invitation to all friends and family to join them on Saturday June 25 from 12pm-2pm for a casual gathering and lite lunch at The Cary Street Club, 89 Summer Street, Nahant.
