Peter Scribner Obituary

SCRIBNER, Peter L. (Lee) Of Lansdale, PA, and longtime resident of Melrose, MA, passed away October 10, 2011, after a brief illness, age 65. He was the beloved husband of Donna (Nelson) Scribner, loving father of Christopher M. Scribner and daughter Dana M. Scribner and grandfather to his dearly loved grandson ConnorM.Scribner. Peter was born in Hull, MA February 7, 1946, the son of the late John W. Scribner and Florence (Shiners) Scribner of Melrose, MA and Drakes Island ME. He enjoyed summers and vacations throughout his life with family and friends on Drakes Island. Peter attended Boston College and at 19 joined the United States Air Force, serving 4 years in the Intelligence Branch. He graduated from the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, CA where he mastered the Chinese (Mandarin) language and served overseas as a Chinese Linguist. He taught Chinese language classes for many years after. Peter started his lifetime career of over 40 years in the Surety Insurance industry holding management and executive positions in several of the major surety companies, among those Cigna, St Paul Fire & Marine, Maryland Casualty, Amwest Surety Ins., Woodland Hills, CA where he served as Chief Underwriting Officer, InterInsure Insurance Services, San Francisco, CA as Chief Technical Officer/VP of IT, and was working at Liberty Mutual Surety, Plymouth Meeting, PA as a Project Manager (Special Projects) in the Operations & Strategy Department at the time of his death. Along with his enjoyment of his work in the surety business, Peter was an early adopter of the personal computer and mastered programming languages which expanded into creating programs which would be useful to businesses in his field, starting several successful businesses. Peter had a natural talent for music, enjoyed playing the piano and base guitar. His kindness, quick-wit, and adventurous spirit will be missed by all who were privileged to know him. Private services were held in PA and MA. Donations to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital were requested in lieu of flowers. He is survived by his cousins, nieces and nephews and their families: Paul & Paula Scribner, Tom & Pam Scribner, Trisha & Doug Ross (PA ) Rick & Dicky Hasselbaum, OH, Jananne Scribner, MA , Rob & Inky Hasselbaum, MA, Sharon & Fred Sutter, MA, Ann & Bill Boise, FL, Judy & Les Bond, FL

Donna, Chris and Dana,
My condolence to you. I am so happy for the opportunity that Peter gave to me of sharing his knowledge of the Surety Industry. He was truly an industry leader.
His great sene of Hummor and joy of life. Lots of happy moments growing up neighbors of "the Scribners".. From All of the Mulcahy's continued thoughts and Prayers!.
