Brenda Johnson Obituary
MUTCH JOHNSON, Brenda With a heart full of love, we celebrate the life of Brenda Mutch Johnson, affectionately famous as Miss Mutch. Best known as the owner and teacher at Jean Paige School of Dance in Brookline, the wife, mother, nanny, and friend to so many, at the age of 85, and surrounded by her loving family, died on Friday, July 25. The eldest of two children, Eileen and Matthew, Mutch was born and raised in Allston-Brighton with her brother, Thomas W. Mutch of Canton. Incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members. She received her education at parochial schools, including St. Mary's of the Assumption High School of Brookline. She spent the majority of her adult life in Brookline, raising a family, being a small independent business owner and a proud member of the community. Miss Mutch discovered her love of dance at a very young age, which led to her true calling as a teacher. She taught and enriched the lives of countless students who went on to send their children and even their grandchildren to her studio. Developing many lifelong cherished bonds, she often attended students' weddings, graduations, and religious celebrations. Her lasting impact was far and wide and for decades. Outside of teaching, Brenda enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life with laughter and some shenanigans. She was a devoted and influential member of the Dance Teachers' Club of Boston, where she held many leadership positions, including President, and served on the board for decades. She was a lifelong Boston sports fan, especially Red Sox and Patriots, loved partaking in "Drink of the Day" on Old Rexhame Beach with her Marshfield crew, breakfast with her Dance Teachers' Club of Boston circle of friends, attending a variety of ballet and Broadway theater productions. Most importantly, she cherished spending time with her husband of 65 years, George; children, Brian and Terri; their respective spouses, Laurie and Greg; and beloved grandchildren, Kyra, Meghan, and Avery. In honor of her generosity and her desire to share the gift of dance, a scholarship has been established in her name.
