PHYLLIS MAHONEY Obituary

MAHONEY, Phyllis (Ramey) Of Dedham, formerly from Randolph and Westwood, Age 90, died August 28, 2014, peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late John R. Ramey and the late Leo J. Mahoney. She is survived by her four children, John P. Ramey and his wife Patricia of W. Roxbury, Patricia Mattox and her husband Joseph of Saratoga, FL, Michael Ramey of Richmond VA and Timothy Ramey and his wife Julie of Taunton, MA. She is also survived by her sister Carol Smith of Richmond, VA and her brother Victor Barbati of Braintree, MA. Also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Phyllis graduated from the Jeremiah E. Burke High School, Class of 1940. While working in a coffee shop in Boston, she met her first husband John R Ramey, a Boatswain mate in the USN. They were married 6 weeks later before he left for active duty. They raised their four children in Westwood and later moved to Randolph. Phyllis was tragically widowed at age 47 and returned to work for the Town of Randolph. She married Leo Mahoney, a talented woodworker in 1980. He predeceased her in 1990. She moved to Harwich for ten years and continued to work as a waitress well into her 80's. Phyllis, "Nana", was beloved by her grandchildren, who were especially fond of her cooking. Every holiday was a celebration of every type of Italian food imaginable, lovingly prepared and served. When Phyllis moved to Westbrook Village in Dedham ten years ago, she continued to host large family dinners for many years and was the "coffee king" at all the condominium functions. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who knew her as "Auntie Mena" and many, many friends. Her family would especially like to acknowledge her friends in the Westbrook community who continued to include her and assist her during the last few years when her health was failing. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St., (Rt 28) RANDOLPH, until 9:15 AM on Saturday followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Mary Church, Randolph. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4:00 - 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Randolph. Phyllis will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to have known her. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Seasons Hospice, 275 Grove Street, Suite 3-102, Newton, MA 02458. My deepest sympathy

August 28, 2014

Hi Timmy, Butch, Patty, and Mike. So sorry to hear the news tonight of Phyllis's passing away. I remember your Mom as one of our finest ever neighbors on Fairmount St. She always, always had that great smile on her face when I went over or she came over to say hi to my mom and chat awhile. Mom and Phyllis were the best of friends, and now they will be together in heaven exchanging recipes! Phyllis always had a great pot of tomato sauce going on the stove for company. She was a true gentle woman and will be missed greatly by you and all her dear friends. You are in our prayers, God Bless you always!
Shalom, Bob and Maureen Trostel
