RICHARD HIGGINS

1974 - 2022

HIGGINS, Richard Of Centreville, VA, formerly of Malden, MA, died February 23rd at the age of 47. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Tufts University and upon graduation he served as Specialist in an Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit in the U.S. Army. Richie went on to work for the Department of Defense and later attended National Defense University, studying security strategy and counter-terrorism. He would later become the first civilian Chair at NDU. Richie was a devoted husband and loving father of four. Sharp, laser-focused, thoughtful, and proud of his Boston roots, Richie will leave behind a legacy of patriotism, honor, and strength. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Karin Higgins and children, Carolyn, Corinne, Audrey, and Thomas of Centreville, VA; parents, Catherine and Richard Higgins and sister, Margaret Higgins of Malden, MA; sister, Kathleen Leonard of Stoneham, MA; and brother, Edward Higgins of Wakefield, MA; along with several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Immaculate Conception on Saturday, April 2nd in Malden, MA at 10am.
