Richard MacCarthy Obituary

75, Of Plymouth, formerly of Marshfield, died Wednesday, April 11. Mr. MacCarthy was born and raised in Wollaston. He graduated from M.I.T. and served as an Army Officer during the Korean War. He worked as a manufacturer's representative for several scientific companies before establishing his own business, Adams Scientific, in the early 1960s. He later became Vice President of Harris Environmental Systems, where he worked until his retirement. Mr. MacCarthy was a life-long member of the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club, where he enjoyed cruising and racing sailboats. He was an avid sportsman, participating in scuba, skiing and golf. Mr. MacCarthy is survived by his wife Gloria (Larson) MacCarthy; four children, Karen MacCarthy Shanley, Krista (MacCarthy) Blair, Richard E. MacCarthy, and Gretchen MacCarthy, all of Marshfield; two sisters, Patricia (MacCarthy) Roy of Pembroke, and Jacqueline (MacCarthy) Beers Guibord of Kingston; six grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on May 20, 2007 at 2 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church in Marshfield Hills. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, c/o Contribution Services, 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA 02445.
