McARDLE, Richard Francis Sr. "Dick" Passed away peacefully at home on August 1, 2023, at the age of 92. He has predeceased the love of his life and grounding force, Lois (Charlton) McArdle. They were married for 68 years. Among Dick's many qualities, he is remembered most for his incredible sense of humor, which was at the core of his captivating genius. Born to the late John and Mary "May" (Koch) McArdle on October 7, 1930; he was brother to the late John "Jack" McArdle, Mary Margaret "Peggy" Reilly, Donald McArdle; and is survived by brothers, Brian McArdle and Kevin McArdle. Dick lived a life devoted to his family: father of Ellen McArdle, Richard (Sonia) McArdle, Karen (James Carty) McArdle, Leslie McArdle, and Douglas McArdle (deceased); and grandfather to Maxwell, McTavish, Madeleine, Charlton, Donovan, and Devon. He also leaves his furry companion, Millie. He attended Newton North High School where he achieved multiple academic honors and was a member of the golf team, the starting point of a life-long passion for the sport. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the National Guard and then the Air Force where he served at Nellis AFB earning promotion to Staff Sgt. He graduated from Boston College, a crowning glory that he identified with throughout his adult life. He majored in Accounting, achieving numerous scholastic merit awards including gold key in Beta Gamma Sigma, Haskell and Sells Foundation award for top scholastic performance in his major, silver medal for the second highest score on the CPA exam, and graduating Summa Cum Laude. At the time of this remarkable academic achievement, he worked two night jobs to support his wife and the then two of the five children their family grew to be. After graduation, he began his distinguished 38-year career with the public accounting firm, Arthur Andersen. Positioned first in Boston, MA office and then partner of Tax Division in Hartford, CT. Dick's brilliance in business strategy and tax law positioned him as an authority sought after for his extraordinary advice and counsel. As a trusted advisor, his leadership in his field influenced the success of many. Throughout his working life, Dick, Lois, and their family lived in Newton, MA, Wellesley, MA, and West Hartford, CT. Post his prominent career he retired to Naples, FL where he pursued his dream of playing a daily round of golf. He and Lois traversed the globe as avid travelers. They would return for summers in Ludlow, VT where Dick never met a tag sale that he didn't love.
