RICHARD SCHUELLER Obituary

SCHUELLER, Richard L. "Rich" 53, of Chelmsford, MA, passed peacefully on June 19, 2015, after a valiant battle with glioblastoma multiforme. He was surrounded by his family, close friends, and loving cocker spaniel, Pepper. He was born in Syracuse, New York, on June 29, 1961, to Eugene W. and Gladys I. (Rock) Schueller. Richard and Susan celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Hawaii in October 2014 and traveled to St. Thomas in March 2015. Richard graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1979. During his high school years, he enjoyed playing his guitar and singing in a band. In 1986, he received his Bachelor of Science in Physics at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he met his wife in 1983. He worked as a research scientist at American Science and Engineering of Billerica, MA from 1986 to 2013. He was an independent research consultant in 2014. Richard was the co-inventor of 6 United States patents, with 7 more currently in the approval process. He co-authored technical standards for the American National Standards Institute. A Renaissance man, Rich pursued many hobbies and sports, including guitar and piano, scuba diving, snorkeling, marksmanship, skiing, bicycling, rock climbing, hang gliding, carpentry, beer brewing, cooking, teaching, and hiking. An avid astronomer, Richard designed and built an astronomical observatory. He was a dedicated member of the New Hampshire Astronomical Society, instrumental in the organization's Educational Outreach program, especially for the placement and support of hundreds of telescopes in public libraries throughout New England. Rich received his certification for rescue scuba diving in 2013. Rich also loved animals, dedicating much time to raising and training his beloved pets. Richard leaves his wife, Susan M. (Chaisson) Schueller, his sister, Patricia (Schueller) Lafleur and her husband Robert Lafleur of Hudson, NH; nephews, Benjamin Lafleur of Nashua, NH and Daniel Lafleur of Somerville, MA, his aunt, May Sentman of Missoula, MT, several cousins across the country and friends throughout the world. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 pm at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD, MA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 o'clock at St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. (Please Meet At Church.) Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Chelmsford, will be at a later date.
