ROBERT COLANTUONO Obituary

COLANTUONO, Robert Joseph Age 84, resident of Chesapeake, VA. Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife, Kathleen; and three children, Michael, Anthony and Regina, March 2, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen Colantuono (Natale) for 48 years. Born in Boston, MA. Robert was predeceased by his father, Charles Anthony; mother, Theresa Helen (LaMacchia) Colantuono; and brother, Paul Colantuono. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children, Michael, Anthony (wife, Natalie), Regina Saburn (husband, Jason); his grandchildren, Gavin, Noelle, Aiden, Noah and Easton; his sister-in-law, Dolores Colantuono; brothers-in-law, Thomas Natale (wife, Linda) and Edward Natale (wife, Nancy); as well as multiple nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob attended Lincoln University for Engineering. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1962 to 1967. He was employed with Perini Corporation for 37 years and Turner Construction for 10 years. His entire career was spent working on major construction projects to include the Callahan Tunnel project, Massachusetts Turnpike extension, Amistad Dam, Evansville Lock and Dam, Gilboa Power Project, North River Sewage Project, Lawrence Sewage Treatment Plant, Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant, Grand Central terminal project, Virginia Beach Convention Center and Northern warning radar, along with multiple overseas projects in Trinidad, Greenland, Paraguay, Brazil and Morocco. In retirement, Bob filled his time working for Event Staffing at events around the seven cities and looking after his grandchildren who lovingly called him "Poppa". Bob was an active member of the Chesapeake Police Citizens Academy alumni from 2009 to 2024. He was intermittent federal employee as a logistics section chief for VA1 DMAT from 2004 to 2010, transferring to LRAT from 2010-2016. Bob was an avid golfer, enjoyed attending Nascar races, watching The Boston Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He loved taking cruises basking in the sunshine and neighborhood game nights. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 14, 2023, at Great Bridge Baptist Church. The interment with Military Honors will follow in Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the church. In lieu of flowers, Bob requested memorial contributions to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, to support cancer research for children.
