ROBERT CROWLEY Obituary

CROWLEY, Robert Joseph "Bob" Of Sudbury, MA, died peacefully on April 26, 2022 of cancer. He was 69 years old. Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia, who has been his spouse and loving companion of over 40 years; his loving mother, Claire M. Crowley; sister MaryBeth Crowley, cousins, cherished co-workers, and beloved friends.

Bob was well-known as a thought-leader, business person, new-product innovator and as a highly creative person. He held over 125 US and foreign patents for wide ranging inventions such as medical devices, nano-optics and materials, computer keyboards, music making equipment, antennas, advanced, highly-prized music recording microphones (Crowley and Tripp Ribbon Microphones became famous in their field and then acquired by Shure, Inc.) and more. Bob started several commercial enterprises to manufacture and sell his inventions globally after retiring from Boston Scientific Corp. in his 40s and mostly served as Chairman of antenna electronics producer RF Venue Inc., and President of Soundwave Research Laboratories, Inc., both of Ashland, MA.

Bob grew up in Newton, MA, attended Newton South High, entered the working world, and graduated from Framingham State University (where he studied to become an Art school teacher, and is honored today as a Distinguished Alumni). He also served as a Curator of Physics at Brandeis University, and as a Technical Instructor at M.I.T. at various points in his career.

Travel, Kauai, Ham Radio, Art collection, shakuhachi and music were some of his interests.

I find myself often wishing I could bounce ideas off Bob, send him an article and get his take. He was not only wise but he was funny. I miss him.

My deepest condolences to his wife Pat as well as his mother and sister. Bob was a very special friend who love to share his interests in music and Ham Radio. He'd invited me over to Wayland when he was going to be working the ham bands. Learning about ham radio while watching him tweet the antenna to pull a weak signal, next thing I heard was a faint voice calling out Bob's call sign... he was chatting with a fellow ham in Japan. There's so many wonderful memories that I will cherish. Rest In Peace my friend.
