Dear Kathi and Carly,
I was so sad to read today that Bob had died earlier this month. We have been friends since the first week at UMass. I went to many of his shows, especially when he was starting out. I also spent many afternoons with him when he was at Ullian Buick, as I lived in Chelsea. While he could make anyone laugh, I knew his sensitive side and his heartbreaks, and his devotion to parenthood. He helped me through everything from growing pains to refinancing. I will truly miss him. Cheryl

My Dear Kathi, and my Dear Carly, I am so shocked, and I am so sad, and I am still sad, and I will be. So often, out of all of us, Bobby really was the best one of us. He loved us all, so very much, and his star shined so bright, and not long. For all of us, deep down, he wished the best for us, and now, deep down, I love him more.

Dear Family of Bobby:

I grew up in Chestnut Hill with Bobby. He was a year behind me. He was a wonderful kid, a great teenager and I had the unbelievable pleasure of having him perform at one of my husband's Xmas parties about 5 years ago. God, did I laugh. He did the whole Jewish schtick and he and I laughed and laughed and laughed. When we stopped laughing, he talked about you, Cathi and his beautiful daughter, Carly. I wish you peace over time and wonderful memories. With deepfelt sympathy, Alissa

I have been going to camp with Carly for years. I was always hearing about the great things her father accomplished. I could always tell their was never ending love in the Lazarus family. The one time i met him he was driving Carly and I home from a Bat-Mitzvah, this was after his bone marrow transplant. He was so open about talking about his cancer and educating me. It was great to hear him talk about it without fear, I could tell Bobby was a great Father, Friend, Brother, Son, Husband, Comedian and a great human being in General. I send my greatest sympathies to the Lazarus family and all who loved him.

Dear Kathi and Carly, I used to work at Catch A Rising Star back in the 80s, where I first met Bob. And though I didn't know Bob as well as other people, I would occasionally bump into him over the years and always admired him for his dedication to his craft, stand-up comedy, but more importantly, for being such a nice guy. I attended the comedy benefit for Bob at the Regent Theater a few months ago and was so impressed with his strength and good humor in the face of such adversity. Carly you displayed the same strength and good humor in your eulogy on Tuesday, and I'm sure your dad would be very proud of you. My deepest sympathies to the both of you.

Bob was my first friend in the Boston Comedy scene and the only one I stayed in touch with. So so so sweet and funny. Much beloved.
My condolences. I know how much he loved Carly and how proud he was of her.

I cannot properly put together the words of comfort I want to say to you.
Please just know that for many decades, Ralph has been my favorite cousin, and for good reason.
I wish I could take away some of the sadness.

dear Kathi and Carly, my sadness is acute over the passing of your husband and father. I know that this is the most difficult thing you have ever had to endure. At times like these, thoughts of love and prayer offerings from family and friends are calming. I am so sorry that Bob was taken from you at such an early age. But if you believe, as I do, God has a plan. What is the larger message for us? Please accept my sincere condolences, and may God hold you and the other members of your family close.
