I was deeply sorry to read of Bob's passing in Sunday's papers. Bob was an extraordinary person. I met Bob while I working at Webster School and due of his warmth and because he always "kept it real," we developed a friendship and would talk whenever we met at 249 High Street. It's been years, but there are folks you don't forget.

He will be missed by all who knew him. We extend our deepest condolence to you and your family during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am so sorry to hear of your family's loss. I will always be grateful to Bob for creating a rowing program in that most unlikely of places, Hartford High. I have fond memories of piling into his Volvo station wagon and heading down to the river each afternoon after school. The crew team was a bright spot in an otherwise difficult four years. Now, rowing competitively here in the UK, I have Bob to thank for providing me with the opportunity to do something I would never have thought was open to me. Bob was a kind, gentle man and a very patient and dedicated coach. My thoughts are with all of you.

I deeply regret the passing of my friend Bob Long. Bob and I worked very closely together along with our team on the project called Readers As Leaders. We had a great deal of respect for each other and mutually enjoyed the comradeship of working this project. He will be sorely missed by me and I dare say our other team members as well. Rest at peace Bob. My heart goes out to the family.

Dear Gloria and Family,
Bob helped me when I got out of BC. He would give me a ride to the Guild (Carroll Center)while I was getting on my feet in mobility. Of greater value the commute was the mentoring and the sharing of his experience that made breaking into the field easier. That was the way Bob always lived his life. I am saddened at his passing. My prayers are with you.

Dear Long family,
Bob was truly one of a kind and a champion for all of the children in Hartford. As a fellow educator, I was blessed to work with Bob for many years in Hartford. As a fellow sailor, I enjoyed sailing the "yellow banana" with Bob and telling tales of the sea.
My deepest sympathy to the Long family.

Gannon, Colman, and Justin, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. He was such an omnipresence at HPHS that it's hard to imagine walking the hallways there without running into him. His spirit there and in Hartford will remain in all the lives he touched.

I will always remember Bob as a gentle light radiating out to anyone and everyone, all inclusive, "no holds barred". I have rarely met a person who had such a gift of immediate heart connection as Bob had. He also somehow made the heaviest burdens lighter, and such an ability to bring forth a smile, even into the saddest places! His nature simply drew out the strengths, and the gifts of others. I know now that the circle of his light went to places farther than our human eyes can see. I have no doubt that his spirit will live powerfully on in those of us who were blessed to know him.

Thank you for all you did for us HPHS kids. I will always remember you as a kind and gentle man - you did not yell when I crashed the shell into the dock. I hope you knew how much you affected the lives of the kids that were welcomed into your presence and home. Rest in Peace.

As a hospice spiritual care volunteer, Bob touched those in his care in the deepest, most spiritual way. He will remain in the hearts and memories of countless people who were comforted by his wisdom and presence, including myself. I will always hold him in a very special place in my heart. He made a profound difference in his world. My thoughts and heart are with you Gloria and family.
