ROBERT HARTLEY MAXWELL

1926 - 2016

MAXWELL, Robert Hartley Formerly of Foxborough, Robert Hartley Maxwell, age 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Briarwood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Needham. He was the son of the late Gertrude (Dale) and Hartley Maxwell, and the brother of the late Virginia (Maxwell) Merrill. Bob was born on June 30, 1926 in Boston and spent his childhood years in Medford. An excellent student, he earned his BA from Boston University in 1948 and his MBA from the same University in 1958 with a grade "A" in his concentrations of Economics, Law and Insurance. He was employed by the former Foxboro Company for forty two years, advancing to executive roles in the Treasury department before retiring in 1990. For many years he served on the Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare Board of Directors. A long time Foxborough resident and Bethany Congregational Church member, Bob was an accomplished bass-baritone who enjoyed bringing his vocal talents to regional opera companies, music groups and church choirs. A voracious reader and student of Latin and German, he was a master of word game puzzles and Scrabble. He was a former member of the St. Alban's Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Foxborough. Loving husband of the late Gisela (Volk) of Frankfurt Germany and the late Natalie (Eddy Lane) of Newport RI. Devoted father of Steven and his wife Helen Maxwell of Needham, Judith Loureiro of the Azores, Portugal, William and his wife Peggy Lane of North Attleboro, Elizabeth Coulam of Northleach England, and Carol Lane of Delray Beach FL. Beloved grandfather of Andrew, Harrison, Cole and Gabriel Maxwell, Kimberley and Christopher Lane, Emily Manning and Nathaniel Lane, and Phillipa White and Amanda Lewis. He also is survived by 5 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, September 30 at 11 AM at the Bethany Congregational Church, 3 Rockhill Street, Foxborough.
