ROBERT H. MORRISON

1923 - 2017

MORRISON, Robert H. 93, of Jamaica Plain, died on March 8th peacefully at home. Raised in Winchester, MA, he was a long-time resident of Lexington, MA where he raised his family and compiled the town report for many years. He also enjoyed spending time in the woods of New Hampshire at his family's farm. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Morrison, who resides at NewBridge on the Charles, his daughters, Jennifer Morrison and husband Richard Marks of Boston, Melissa Morrison and husband Bill Kittrell of Crozet, VA, and son, Robert Morrison and wife Kim Buchanan of Chicago, IL; his grandchildren, Hannah Leaver and husband Andrew Leaver of Boston, Emma Marks of New York City, and Maggie Kittrell of Crozet, VA. Bob graduated from the Holderness School in New Hampshire and from Harvard College in 1946 and served in the Army in WW ll. His writing career started with newspapers, including the WSJ, and moved to advertising, where he worked for the DR Group of Boston. In his retirement, Bob turned from newspaper work and copy-writing to his memoir, bringing the same economy of style and Yankee wit to the story of his life. He wrestled with large questions and trained an unsentimental—but affectionate—eye on marriage, fatherhood, work, and friendship. Bob remained his own man until the end: dignified, funny, and filled with love. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
