ROBERT PERRYMAN Obituary

PERRYMAN, Robert Jr. Former New England Patriot Robert "BP" Perryman, 58, a long time resident of North Andover, Massachusetts, passed away February 23, 2023 in Snellville, Georgia after a rapid decline with dementia with his loving wife Sonya and family by his side. He was born to Robert Perryman, Sr. and his wife Carolyn on October 16, 1964 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Robert spent his high school years in Massachusetts at Bourne High School on Cape Cod. After graduation, he accepted a full football scholarship to the University of Michigan. He was a Michigan running back from 1982-1986. During his senior year, he finished second on the team in rushing yards and was not tackled for a loss the entire year. The Wolverines went 11-2 and won the "Big Ten" that year. After graduating from the University of Michigan, Robert went on to pursue his dreams playing in the National Football League. He was drafted overall #79 in the 1987 NFL draft and was selected as the New England Patriots second pick in the third round as a running back/full back. He played four years with the New England Patriots, then with the Dallas Cowboys and two seasons with the Denver Broncos. After a successful NFL career, Robert focused his talents working with the United Way and later as a probation officer in Gloucester District Court and Salem Superior Court. His passion for football also led him to coach Youth, High School and College Football teams. He also worked as an assistant coach with the Boston Militia of the Independent Women's Football League with former Patriots cornerback, Derrick Beasley, Robert's brother-in-law. In retirement he enjoyed exercising, playing golf and spending time with his retired group of friends at the Yacht Club. In the last two years, his biggest joy in life was spending time with his youngest grandson Zayn. Robert will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Robert is survived by the love of his life, wife Sonya Perryman (McCarter) of thirty two years. They enjoyed so many unforgettable memories with close family and friends. Robert was a loving and caring father of their children, Jason, Krista, Robert, III and his fiancee Julia Mulcahy. He leaves his mother, Carolyn Perryman (Hicks), his brother, Rorery Perryman and wife Kimberly Perryman (Kalinowski), his sisters, Kimberlyn Perryman, Kelly Perryman, Kirsten Perryman, eldest daughters, Nicole Hills (Perryman), Sasha Perryman, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and predeceased by his brother, Ronald Perryman and father, Robert Perryman, Sr. In addition to a very large community of friends. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 1pm on March 11th, 2023 at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory, GWINNETT, 914 Scenic Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA 30045. Visiting Hours: Friday, March 10th, 4-8pm.

I was privileged to have met Robert. A giant of a man, intelligent, funny, a proud husband, father, a family man. He and I had many conversations about one of his passions, Football. We spent time cycling at Cedardale Health and fitness. I was in awe of his rare sense of humor. I feel a sense of loss. I send my most sincere condolences to his family. May they live with the many fond memories!

I competed against him in high school track. I was a freshman, 5´4" 90 lbs, and he was huge senior. He always shook everyone´s hand before the race start, which was unexpected and disarming. He then proceeded to cross the line when I barely was out of the blocks. But I will always remember his kindness and warmth to everyone.
