Annette Cadwell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home on Mar. 26, 2026.
Annette G. Cadwell passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026 at Edward Hospital in Naperville due to complications from multiple sclerosis.

Annette was born in Marion Ohio on February 16, 1945. She was the daughter of the late Lillian C. Gibbon and the late William R. "Bill" Gibbon. She enjoyed a happy childhood and graduated from Marion Harding High School Class of 1963. Annette went onto pursue an undergraduate degree in English at Heidelberg College. Her love of books and reading inspired her to pursue a Masters of Library Science degree at the University of Michigan.

After earning her MLS, Annette worked as a librarian in Columbus and later Toledo, Ohio. While working in Columbus, she met her husband, Marvin L. Cadwell. They married on December 14, 1974 and soon after moved to Lisle, Illinois. They settled in Naperville a few years later. Annette became a librarian for the National Restaurant Association in Chicago. She enjoyed riding the Metra into the city for work.

On June 13, 1983, Annette gave birth to her daughter, Lillian. Annette then shifted to working at the Lisle Public Library where she worked until her retirement. Annette was a happy fixture at the Information Desk and helped many people find the right information, books, and microfiche. She was also an active P.E.O. sister and attended First Congregational United Church of Christ in Naperville.

Annette was diagnosed with MS in the early 2000s. She maintained a positive attitude despite the progressive nature of the disease. During her retirement, she made a trip to India as well as spending two Christmases in the UK. Annette was curious about the world and was always an avid reader and patron of Anderson Bookshop in Naperville.

Annette is survived by her husband Marvin, brother John Gibbon of Burlington, WI and her daughter, Lillian Green who now lives in York, England. Annette was also a devoted grandmother to Henry, Isaac, as well as Fred who she never met in person. Her grandsons miss their Nana very much.
